AMREF Salzburg marathon

Foxy We stayed in the same hotel as the Kenyan team & chatted to a few of them in broken English, the one fella said he was hoping for sub 2hours 15 mins & he came 3rd inside that time & the women's winner was in our hotel too. The race was started by Bond girl Caterina Munro from Casino Royale & sponsored by a brewery :) the route was 2 laps starting in the Mozartplatz, heading out along the river & through woodland roads around the base of the Alps - very scenic before looping back round to finish in the same place, i ran the majority of the race with a guy called martin from linz in Austria - i went ahead of him with 5km to go but then he must have got passed me whilst I walked through a drinks station, i caught him & passed him with about 2km to go & beat him by about 2 minutes. My favourite race photo has to be me airplaning over the line whilst running on the finishing red carpet. the medal was basic & the t-shirt very poor quality printing on a white t-shirt but it was a cahrity based event for african famine relief. I found the Austrian people very friendly & would recommend both the city & the marathon. i raised £650 + for Jacobs syndrome which one of my colleagues in daventry has a son who is a sufferer. 100 Marathon Club, MK Lakeside Runners, Milton Keynes Lakeside Runners 3:09:27 3:26:47 3:44:59 3:43:54 54.45
