Ran Abingdon on Sunday - at 12miles in my right ITB went, and I was in a lot of pain Stupid I know, but I carried on, I've run all my marathons with some degree of ITB pain! No foot pain at all.
Anyway, Sunday night the outside edge of my right foot started to hurt for no apparent reason. About halfway along, although the pain goes back towards my ankle and forwards towards my little toe.
Dr Google diagnosed peroneal tendonitis, but I did also wonder about a stress fracture.
Went to see a sports massage therapist yesterday. Piriformis so tight that I cried when she massaged it, same with ITB. From the soleus down it was also agony, and she said it was VERY VERY tight right down to my ankle.
Then had some ultra sound treatment on the peroneal tendons too. My foot was poked and prodded, and surely if it *was* a stress fracture I would have been leaping off the couch?
Today it feels no better. If I walk on the ball of my foot this helps and if I put my foot up this helps too.
I have been told to ice and do a little gentle stretching.
I really thought it would have eased a little bit today. (In my job I'm on my feet all day long, which I'm sure doesn't help)
Should I go to the docs and get it checked for a stress fracture, or am I being ridiculous?
Please tell me I'm being ridiculous.
Any advice gratefully received.

Patience? (yes, I suppose you could get a pack of cards and play this game while you have your foot up & iced). Tendons can take a while to recover

(I'm a sports massage person though, not a doc, so probably best wait for someone more qualified to comment)

Thanks hj - I am not patient! When I had an achilles injury it never hurt like this!
Being on my feet all day is making it sore too.

The treatment would be the same as we don't pot toes. I have had a severe tendon tear over my medial malleolus which If totally honest, still is better and I did that in May That was after Edinburgh Marathon.
I'm afraid fizz and resting are the only things you can do.
I've also had my biomechanics checked out and apparently I run like a total div. I was fitted with insoles which has relieved the tendon somewhat.
If you press the area, is it tender to touch? In other words, do you have boney tenderness? If not, I'd rule out a fracture.

Thanks Chromey - how can you tell if a tendon is actually torn?
The *main* pain is actually just behind the 5th metatarsal but is does radiate forward (and back and underneath too). By looking at anatomical diagrams, it does seem to be where the peroneal tendons insert.
I've poked and prodded the bones (quite a lot!), but it's not tender to touch.

I would rule out a fracture in that case.
You can't really tell the extent of the damage to any ligaments/tendons without an MRI and that wouldn't be routinely done unless all other avenues of treatment have been exhausted.
Ibuprofen, REST and fizz I'm afraid. Review in a few weeks.
Sorry but that's better than a break!

A FEW WEEKS!! But as you say, better than a break.
I did take ibuprofen for the first couple of days, but it didn't seem to help with the pain - should I still take it?
