Girvan HM. Course was long due to start being moved. Very warm today, ended up burnt and dehydrated. very pleased with run considering lack of any real training for the last two weeks. Hoping to spring back from this now and get back to sub 3 marathon shape for October.
Started off steady holding in behind the very many fast starters, but still ran first mile a bit fast, going through in 6.25. tried to slow pace a bit over next 2 miles, then overdid it in mile 4 and had to pick it up a bit. Started to pass runners regularly from here. Left a couple of guys on the big downhill straight into Dailly, and kept momentum coming back up the hill at the other side. Had to stop to tie my shoe lace and expected someone to pass me but had enough of a gap to keep postion. The shade in the trees from here was welcome but I was beginning to feel the pace a little. Concentrated on form to ensure alignment and keep my legs turning over quickly and easily. I could see a few more runners in the distance now and felt like I was making steady progress.
Got a welcome bottle of lucozade sport from Steve at mile 8 and felt like I had a bit of second wind from there. My foot was thorbbing now, but I was able to ignore it for the most part. Tried to make some time going down to Cairnhill and as usual the climb back out of the valley was very tough. From there I felt like I was in the home straight. Made real progress on the guys in front and eventaully tagged onto the back of them outside Old Dailly. I passed one guy here, and reeled in the next just outside Girvan.
Delighted with finish time as I really wanted under 90 but thought it may be beyond me just now. New personal course record for me as well, so really can't complain. Picked up trophy for first local and £30 of vouchers.
