Notes & Comments
Five months of hard training were flushed down the lavatory by this frankly ridiculous course. I'm sure there are enough flat, sheltered roads in Nottingham to make a decent marathon course but this was very disappointing. The first half of the race was punctuated by a series of very steep hills and although I got to half way in 1:49:07, I was exhausted and knew that the second half was about survival.
I felt faint and nauseous throughout the second half and as we ran around the top of the lake at the National Watersports Centre, I realised that most of the last 6 miles would be into a 30mph headwind. I was reduced to a humiliating walk at times and only picked up the pace to a respectable level when I found shelter from the wind.
In its defence, the race was extremely well organised and the crowds were excellent. I will not be doing this race again.
