controversial Just going for a PB, nothing more :-)
**UPDATE**
So another PB, and this one was a lot more smooth than the previous marathon. Started pretty fast and well motivated. I had planed a 4min27s pace per km in order to get my target, but very soon I was running consistently faster than that. By km 7 I was 1 minute in front my pace.
I was keeping myself from going faster, didn't want to get carried away. From km 8 we started the 13km stretch on the islands crossing bridges and feeling the strong Baltic wind.
Km 14 (1 hour and a bit) I eat my dates (5), always very happy to carry my own water in my bladder back pack as they give in cups and it is impossible to drink any without stopping. Quite a few little steep hills make the legs work hard.
Km 20 I start to have a little niggling pain in my right calf, time to take some taut endurance with sodium and magnesium.
Half way in roughly 1:31 and feeling damn good, but time to take the first gel. By now the field is pretty thin, so makes running easier.
Km 30 I am feeling great, probably the nicest 10K I ever run in a marathon, I could say it is close to a Zen like feeling, the body is doing great and the mind is relaxed I am enjoying it!! I feel very in peace with me, my heart rate has gone slightly lower at the same time than I have increased my speed, what else can I ask for?
Km 35 I lose a couple of guys that were running with me for the last 10 Km , what a pity, it was nice to have a bit of company. The legs are starting to be tired, so we are now again in full awareness mode to try to avoid any problems. HR is good, pace is good too, second set of dates and a last half gel, finish my energy drink and lets go for the last push. A lot of runners look pretty tired, but I am going well, I am enjoying it so much that I haven't checked my time against my pace band since half way!!
Last Km, I can see the Olympic stadium; just one last damn hill and we are in. Full throttle in the stadium under the cheers of the crowd with my name on the big screen and the tannoy announcing me! I am 98th but I feel like a winner!
My best marathon ever, I have never enjoyed running as much as that!
