Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Treasure Hunt Backlog - July!

For one reason or another - mostly work related - not much running happened for me in the last few months, with a knock on effect on treasure hunting (my 'house rules' are that I have to collect all my photos when out running). So I've got a bit of catching up to do - starting with July.

1. Only fools and horses

This is the one that held me up. I sometimes see a replica of the three wheeler driving through town early in the morning - but not this month. So had to settle for the asses and horses on Stratford Road.

2. Face

I ran 20 sodding miles just to take this picture - only to find it obscured by the work to dig up Bedford High Street.

3. Witchery/wizardry

The trusty street sign approach...

4. Sculpture

This obelisk sits in the middle Chicksands Woods, and is in memory of George Montague Dunk, Earl of Halifax. I have no idea what it's doing in rural Bedfordshire. And having read the 'blurb', couldn't help wondering if despite his stated virtues he might have dabbled in the odd slave.

5. Pirates

What running I did do in July was centered on the Dead Mans Ultra - a pirate themed ultra-marathon. It's on my to-do list to do a separate blog about it. But here was just before the race start - the infamous Mark Cockbain with his back to the camera.

6. Cover up

Stumbled across these two on separate runs. One is mother nature covering up man-made, the other man-made covering up nature!

7. Life's a beach

Although the real thing is a couple of hours' drive away, I live in the right place for the sand - and the local nursery also helped.

8. Weather vane

Just up the road...

9. Green cross code

For the last several years I have marshalled the final changeover point on the Greensand Ridge Relay race (a 35 mile relay race along the Greensand Ridge). I'm always slightly worried about the name of the changeover point - and urge people to take care crossing the road.

10. Topiary

Really struggled to find something here. Perhaps with its tradition of market gardening Bedfordshire people are too busy growing useful things to mess about with fancy hedges. And then I discovered this in the garden of the RSPB HQ on Sunday.

Thanks for an interesting list Lesley C. Just got a few more to find for August!

Got something to say?
