About Me

I'm a fraud and am not really a runner at all.

I prefer to walk - or better still just sit and admire the view. But then I turned 42, started to pile on the weight and so Mrs OFT bought me gym membership for Christmas. I fell in love with MTV, Beyonce and Concept 2, but soon got bored of dreadmills - then met up with some Very Bad people at Les Croupiers RC who eat Inov8's for breakfast and don't stop for a picnic when out in the hills. Curse them..

Mentally I'm happy to go along with this - the crack is rather good and I like the company (if only people in work were like this !). Physically though, my body has rebelled. I'm always injured and have developed a rare condition I call 'Road Running Induced Inflammatory Disease' (RRIID). >20 miles a week on road, the mere thought of entering a mararthon, a track sesssion, or anything close to 7 min miling and something new always tears, pings or turns purple.

My physio (who is a genius) keeps nagging about the need for orthotics or even tailor made shoes (I have a 18mm leg length difference, hence maybe preferring contored to flat surfaces). Am not a fan of wedges though. Take to the hills and all the ills go away...

Failing that, I just rest when injured and help out (eg the magnificent Welsh Castles Relay which you must all do one day)
