London Marathon
An epic first marathon!
Went to plan for first 10 miles and OK at half way (official half way time 1:36:24), but really struggled with the heat (and no doubt the missed training was a contributor) over the second half - despite slowing significantly, had a significant break (nearly 15 mins) at Lucozade gel station at 21.5miles where I had 2 gels and a bottle of water to try to get back going. While I was there the 8mm and 3:30 finish pacers went past. Struggled to get going again from that stop, but was determined to finish (and keen to keep within 3:40)! Having finished, ended up checking out the medical facilities as I was very unsteady on my feet after receiving medal and medical team decided to take me in - couple of bottles of rehydration solution and while I was there some physiotherapy on my legs. On return home, discovered a couple of toes on right foot were a bit of a mess too. I think the old adage that you have to forget your last marathon before entering another one will hold true for me after this!
