Cardiff Half Marathon 2012, new course and even larger field than last year. Bit chaotic in the first mile as everyone jostled for space, which soon sorted itself out. Started in the sub 1.45 pen but quickly progressed and latched onto sub 1.30 club colleagues, Mystery Pete and Glyn. The three of us then had an epic battle almost until the finish, swapping places here and there - for the spectators it must have rekindled memories of Coe, Ovett and Cram together in the 80’s....only in slow motion! Maintained steady pace throughout, though lost a little on the ‘massive hill’ up the east side of the Lake, where my rivals finally pushed on ahead. Still, finished 1 second under 1.26, so happy with that. Brilliant spectacle seeing the roads full of runners. Great organisation, super weather and best of all, of course, fantastic support. Cardiff finally did itself proud today. Cheers everyone.
