Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Forum Guide

Our forum has had 7.8 million posts on 64,000 topics since I built it in 2006. A hefty number, but still a niche microbrewery in social media terms. That's ok. We're here for the connoisseurs, not the hoi polloi.

Focus on the good stuff

Dip into any thread that takes your fancy. If you enjoy it, click the 'Watch' button at the top of the thread. You'll get a notification whenever there are new posts. Or if it's absolute tosh, click the 'Mute' button. It'll never bother you again.

You can also find your watched (and muted) threads from the forum home page – look for the 'Watched' and 'Muted' buttons.

You can also pin individual posts, whether it's a useful piece of training advice, a funny joke, or a recipe for paneer curry. Use the pin button in the top right corner of the post. Then on any thread, you can see 'Your Pins', and also 'Most Pinned' to find the best content from the thread.

How to deal with bad stuff

You might occasionally find someone who really annoys you. It happens, even on Fetcheveryone. You have two options. Contact me for help. Or you can use the block button to hide all posts by that user on the thread in question. Instead, you get a picture of some kittens. Awww, cute!

And if it's *really* bad, you might want to consider the Report button. If you think the content is unsafe or illegal, you can report it and I will act promptly.

Enrich your posts

There's nothing wrong at all with just typing your posts. For thousands of years, we've communicated with letters and punctuation. But cave people drew pictures on the walls, so what's to stop you getting a bit more adventurous?

Above the box where you type your posts, there are a number of buttons to make your posts just a bit more thrilling.

@
Tag another member of the site. Press this button, or type an '@' in the text box, and it brings up a box where you can type a nickname. The person you tag will get a notification pointing them at your post.

B, I, U
As you'd expect, these are for bold, italic or underlined text. Highlight a bit of text, then press the button. Or if you press the button without selecting any text, the relevant tags get dropped into your post, and you can type the special bit inside them.

Spoiler
Let's say you've just listened to the latest episode of The Archers, and you want to share your theory on the missing bunting. Highlight the potential spoiler, and use this button to protect innocent eyes.

Image
If you'd like to insert an image in your post, press this. It'll show you all the recent images you've uploaded. Click one to insert it at your cursor. Or use 'Upload new image' to add something completely new.

Preview
To make sure your post looks right before you submit, use the Preview button for a quick look.

Clear
Written some garbage? Clear it with this.

You can also quote another user. This is handy to make sure everyone knows who you are responding to. On every post there's a quote button. Click this and it will post the quoted text into your reply box. OR if you're not on the last page of the thread it will copy it to your clipboard, so you can paste it into your reply yourself.

Other useful stuff on each thread

To the right of the thread (on desktop), or underneath it (on mobile), you'll find some extra information supporting the discussion. These boxes are maintained by the person who created the thread. There's an 'About This Thread' box, which gets used in various ways on different threads. And a 'Useful Links' section, where you'll find (guess what) useful links relating to the content. And there's also an automatically generated 'Related Threads' box for other threads to explore.

A few more settings to make you aware of...

There are a few settings in your Account Settings, if you really want to drill into it. These are fairly self-explanatory too, so I'll not bore you with them now.

And that's it, really...

The forum has grown organically over the years. In some ways, it suits the Fetch community perfectly, but it can take some getting used to if you are new. As always, I welcome your feedback. The best place to report any issues is via our Help page. But anyway, now that you're a forum expert, why not get stuck in:
