Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Notes & Comments

Christchurch Marathon

Firstly, a minor miracle considering I'm full of my son's cold and spent the whole of yesterday afternoon and night in the toilet. I said to Mrs J last night that if I felt the same in the morning I wasn't even going to start. But there we go. Excuses out of the way. Let's ignore that now and talk race.

I was aiming to run this as my B race for the year and as such, I was happy to trial adjustments. So I went out with my strategy being all about running to % of HR threshold. I managed to stay pretty much within ranges for the whole race. Really pleased with that outcome. I kept to my lower cadence as well, right through to the last lap of four. Had a bit of a drift around there as my main issue, apart from being ill as above, was that my legs just didn't have it in them for the last lap in reality. My HR and respiratory system were great today, somehow, but the legs just weren't there at the finish.

But look, I really shouldn't complain. I PB-ed by over 4 minutes. My HR was bang on. I also had to take a natural break near the end of the third lap, that cost me nearly 2 minutes. Given all of the above, it was a bloody good day at the office.

58 in two weeks, I really can't complain.

Aches and pains: Yes, lots. Thighs, calves quads. I'm shagged.

Shoes: Asics MagicSpeed Edge - definitely achey forefoot after the about 25-30k. I wonder if I'd should have gone for the Sky version.
