Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

LMH - Barnstaple is a 75 minute drive so localish.

Ger - That's a great story about your Dad. 100k a week at 71, inspiring. Good miles again but that night time swim sounds mega. I took to the sea yesterday.
FJ - Ha ha, unleashed my inner Kipchoge! Sadly not doing Barnstaple as running up mountains in Nice instead.

TT - Good to see you easing yourself back in.
OO62 - Chapeau on running 3k and a decent time.

DT - Well done on the mileage June record.

PNE - Hopefully see you @ Abingdon.

312m for June, biggest monthly mileage ever!

TT - I was at work yesterday so no run. The gym is definitely more attractive in hot weather - as long as the air con is working!

Managed twenty miles again this morning. Had to divert home for sunnies and a cap (it was overcast when I set off) and stopped far more than I should have. My right knee gave me a couple of warning shots but held out for the run. Was quite uncomfortable walking home though. Rest day tomorrow because of work (though may make it to the gym first thing as I'm on training all day so have a later start) which I'm hoping will allow it to settle. Fortunately have a physio appointment Thursday afternoon.

LMH - Ah ok. I think the overall elevation gain is about 1,200ft, but it does end up at sea level again, so, it's a case of what goes up must come down. The difficult part of the course is out of the way by mile 6. I'll show you when you are here.

TT - very interesting re your pb. How long was the 30 mpw phase? I wasn't sure if you would know it. It was extremely warm yesterday. Good work in that heat. The kids must keep you busy.

OO62 - Thanks old chum. That is a very good 3,000m race, especially after your holiday.

Forrest - yes, I am very lucky. The beach is 400m from my office and 500m from my house. Swim last night was magic. No one else in but me.

Wardi - I'll stick to nice hotels. :) It peaked at around 33.5c here yesterday. Good bike miles.

PNE - welcome back. I think OO or DT may have run Chester but could be mistaken.

DT - Our local flight operator (Blue Islands) has cancelled it's direct route service to & from Brum. Very annoying. The fly to East Midlands but that's not convenient for a trip to see my family there.

I know everyone was suffering yesterday in the heat but I was a bit disappointed I couldn't run in it as I love a really hot run followed by a sea dip but rest was required after 51 miles run in the previous 6 days. 24c here today, so still quite warm but not feeling like we were in Spain yesterday. Will get out for a run later.

Fortunately that means nothing to me Gerard. :-) Down is actually worse for the knees than up. Bit late to change my plans now having paid for everything so assuming I make the start line I'll just have to run what's in front of me and hope! Enjoy your run.

OO, sounds like a reasonable outcome on a warm evening after a holiday and a day of travel! All eyes on Sunday now.

PNE, I'd say both Chester and Yorkshire are reasonable substitutes for Abington.

TR, yes Newcastle Sunday. Current forecast is 16c grey and drizzly and a light breeze. Sounds pretty pleasant if it stays that way!

Still a decent mileage TR, shouldn't really affect your chances of a decent half mara.

Ger, I think you had to pick your moments and find the performances as opposed just watch would BBC broadcast on main channel.

That looked like a great long run. Sounds like you are living the holiday life despite just being at home. That's a pain re the flights, though East Mids isnt too big a trip from here. Are there not other providers that fly Jersey to Brum?

Ouchie, thats a great tally. How does that sit against your biggest months?

FJ, that's decent going being on your 2nd round of legs. I like the idea of completing all of the legs of the Welsh castle relay. I've done 6 of them and regret now repeating legs 18 and 19 and pulling out last minute of another year with illness as with 9 under my belt it'd feel almost realistically achievable.

Wardi, yes, it was proper hot yesterday late afternoon.

LMH, yes that is the plan to keep it short (up to half mara) until October and then if i have entered Malaga to pick things up from there. Great work on the 20 this morning.

TT, crikey you must have been very busy at one point then with 5, plus running and work.

Last night was too hot for me in my new build style house, I was just sat on the sofa in pyjama shorts at 10pm and there was no respite, it felt about 30c!

Very warm and heavy here today.

Had a chiropractic appointment at midday so went out just after 10 for my mini session of 2 x 2k at 10kp off 2 min walk. I was completely drenched from it but glad it was done as I can let the work of the chiro bed in now over next 24 hours. Paces were in around that 5.45-5.50 mm. I am hoping a race scenario and temps that are currently forecast lopping 10c off this morning will make those paces quite achievable on Sunday.

I looked yesterday and was surprised to see that only twice i've run sub 36.30. I've about 8 others between 36.30-36.50 so realistically i'll have to be happy with sub 36.30, albeit I am a little unsure whether the course is decent or not for that.

OO62 - you're keen, running a 3000m race so soon, you are racing the Newcastle race too? If so, no more track racing, or hard parkruns !

PNE - good to see you, sounds ambitious !

LMH - blimey, tough day for a 20m ! You can probably survive a hilly race as a one off.

DT - hope you go well then, it's probably more about AG position anyway?

Yes, I'm not too bothered about the low mileage, it's just not the norm. I ran my pbs of 1.18 and 59min off about 100m a month in my daily trainers after a summer and autumn of tri training.

Sleeping is tough at the mo ! Stopped my 30min of 90sec reps at 20min today, as had a tight glute (from weights?) and tummy trouble, its been bsd gor 4 or 6 dsys. I get a lot of tummy trouble now around running since the food poisoning. Will aim to get on top of it before weekend or it gets a bit draining energy wise. No beers since Saturday, so that should help.

Was really warm even early doors for running today. Think a bit of wind and rain is forecast for Sunday, it's always windy there though so no surprise.

TR - sorry to hear about the stomach issues. Mine caused an awful lot of inconvenience until I eventually saw the consultant, was diagnosed with severe IBS and after a bit of trial and error found a combination of medication that helps though even that hasn't entirely sorted it. Probably TMI but I still generally have to plan my run routes around available toilets and I have to watch what I eat especially if I'm running the next day. Pre race I need about three days of a pretty drastic change in diet which along with extra meds on race day seems to have worked so far. I'm guessing you've tried all the obvious things like probiotics? I will hopefully survive the race - but I can't train for the hills.

DT - racing in cooler weather should definitely help.

Ouchie - fair play, too nice not to get in. That's a mahoosive monthly total, well done.

LMH - well done on the 20. It's actually not too bad, it's just not a flat fast course. The last 5k is flat along the promenade, so a nice finish if you've got anything left. What's your go to pre race meal?

TR - I sleep with a little fan next to me at night.

DT - good sesh. We aren't used to this kind of extreme heat and it does make for an uncomfortable night without air con. I spent most of last night outside and in the water. Got home around 10:30ish and it was 25c inside. What's the craic with the chiro visits?

21c here and foggy at the mo. I think it will warm up when it clears. Just off out shortly for my run. Hopefully the rest day yesterday will see me feeling decent.

I'm pretty sure you sold it to me as flat and fast Gerard! :-) The night before a race is now white rice and either prawns or salmon maybe with a bit of sweet chilli sauce and always pudding - usually cake I've baked or tapioca - oh, and a glass of red. :-) Breakfast is yoghurt with granola and maybe a banana (they have to be ripe) and perhaps some white bread/a bagel toasted with peanut butter.

Can't stand the noise of a fan in the bedroom. I'm very light and noise sensitive. Very unusually for me I managed to sleep (when I did) with the small bedroom window open last night - had to get up and shut the big one about 0230hrs because of the noise - and I live in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Positively chilly run for you today then.

TR, I won't get near those in my AG, I will be at the bottom of the pack so i'll be focusing on my race.

Yes the current forecast is a bit breezy here but stiller in Newcastle.

Have you been to GP re stomach issues? They can probably prescribe some basic meds that you can take when it flares up.

Ger, still very warm and heavy here, will be another uncomfortable night. Looks much cooler after that.

I go to the chiro every 8-12 weeks for a routine bashing about. I usually get out of line in middle back and neck area. He also does sports injury treatment so if I have a trigger point in my hamstring for example like today he'll get his thumbs in and red light lazer.

I was looking at running shoes earlier, in particular the new puma fast r 3. I then realised that they have released also a fast RB 3 which is illegal to elites as has a 58mm stack and is £299. Given what the fast R seem to be capable of, the RB must be insane!

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
