Rather tough and hilly 7.5 miles yesterday evening, covering part of the route for the South Downs 10 which is being run on Sunday (although not running that). First part all uphill and, thankfully, downhill on the way back. Just managed to beat the rain.

Just down a 5k lunch run. Was a bit warm and the countryside smells were strong so breathing was more an effort than it usually is. Work was a bit hectic/ crap this morning so the run was much needed |

Well run everyone Nice run in the woods with squirrels leaping from tree to tree above my head. Blackbirds and willow warblers providing the music. Stopped for a few minutes to appreciate it. |

Wednesday was the 'Weakest Link' relay race. Teams of four running a 2.5K lap and then handing over until the 4th runner, who picks up the rest of the team to run the last lap as a team and finishing together. Hence you need to run the last lap at the pace of the slowest team member. We were never, as a team, going to challenge for any honours. There are some seriously quick runners and so it's more to do with where you fit with your peers. The club had seven teams and we were comfortably mid-table in that respect. I ran the last leg, so was tagged with no one really in sight. Behind was another matter as a member of another team came thundering past me pretty much straight away and opened up a 30m gap. However I think there ambition told as I managed to reel them back in. That was really the only excitement, apart from the thundering past of teams of four as we were lapped. All very comfortable until the last 200m, when my calf tightened!! I mentioned it as I picked up the rest of the team, but said we'd finish. In the end the calf held out, albeit it's sore and bitter experience tells me I need to rest it now. |
