I was always surprised by how much backlash it got in the UK. This is before we get into Speelstraat (play streets), where playing children have priority and only residents can drive there, or fietsstraat (bike streets) where bikes have priority. In Belgium it is illegal to even overtake a bike on a fietsstraat. Can just imagine how enraged some of the gammons would get if you proposed that!
