45 min Pilates last night. Tough after 8 mile run. Does everyone do core before or after the run? or separate e.g. morning, then run at night or what? :-)G

I find running harder than core, so rather do the running while body is fresh TT! The idea of going out for a run *after* anything doesn't appeal! :-)G

I do the running first on the grounds that it counts as a warm up.

This is an interesting point... I find core work hard, but I also find running hard at the moment. I am doing core work to get me running again without repeating the run->injury->rest cycle that I have had in the past. So, the core is the means to an end.
Tonight, I have decided is going to be a run + gym night. I usually do one or the other (core/elliptical on my 'rest' days). But I can't decide which to do first. Would running with a set of 'tired' core muscles affect my running? or would they be just warmed-up in readiness?

Warmed up I would say Andrew but someone with a brain will probably come along soon and tell you why I am wrong

I guess that it depends on how much core work I do before running. Maybe, I could do: 1/2 core session Run 1/2 core session
that way, I wouldn't knacker my abs/lower back before the run. Just a thought like.

Yes I was wondering what the session would consist of. Thinking about it when I used to go to the gym I would do a run warm up for 15-20 minutes then the strength work then my days run after....

I mostly do work with the swiss ball (jack knife, sit ups, planks, roll-outs). All fairly low intensity. I am still at the run/walk stage of my running development so... 1 mile walk to gym light core session (as above) Run/walk (2.5 miles) stretches and gentle core elliptical 15 minutes 1 mile walk home (stop off at pub for a quickie)

I did a great kettlebell and core session on Monday. I know kettlebells get you to brace your core anyway, but we mixed things up with short sets of kettlebell lifts interspersed with various plank exercises, tabeta style. Was a good workout.
