Longsleighround (LSR)
Tips for running faster: set off too quickly, keep telling yourself that you're not going to die, keep telling yourself that the faster you go the quicker the pain will stop, repeat for as long as takes to complete 5k.

LSR ...has obviously been reading from my old training diary. I broke 30 min for the first time since I've been back running at a parkrun on Saturday. A time of 30.07/ 5km has been hanging over me like a bad smell since August. I ignored my own longing to go like hell and hang on, and took it fairly steady for the first mile and fortunately found I still had a bit of energy left. I got to the bit where I could see the finish, checked my watch and realised I could possibly walk it and still do sub-30 - so that felt great I think that parkrun have paced runs from time to time, but if not I think you need to hit that first mile in about 9.15-20 to be on for it.

Ha ha LSR but that only works if your 5k doesn't start with an uphill!

Well done Alan, it would be nice to be able to run that fast.
LSR, that's the only way I've been able to pb at parkrun. I stopped some kiddies overtaking me at the end a few times last year but still got nowhere near my pb.

Longsleighround (LSR)
Preston Parkrun doesn't start with an uphill but it does have a significant climb within about 300 metres of the start. I forgot to mention, by the way, that letting rip with some good Anglo-Saxon terminology as I cross the line helps too.

On 5th March, GM and HB are planning to come to run with me at Leamington parkrun. I'm unlikely to be near a sub-30 by then but it'll be an opportunity for a marker and, of course, a wonderful excuse for some Fetchiness. If anyone else fancies the trip, you'd be very welcome!

I'm looking forward to that, SW. I'll hopefully be near 32 minutes by then!
