If you play WSW seriously there can be a fair bit of skill involved - grid placement, route planning, watching your opponent’s routes and working with them. It’s why I’m at the bottom of the table 😀
If you could view opponents maps and make choices based on their terrain there’d be skill involved. And a whole set of privacy issues!

I see it as a bit of fun which might encourage us to run and explore a bit more while increasing social interaction on the site - all good.
Let’s face it, one-third of those who sign up won’t ever look at it again, one-third will watch the results accumulating pretty much as a by-product of their normal training and occasionally get enthusiastic for a few months and one-third will go all in and have a lot of fun with it. Props to Fetch for developing something new.
(Anyone who wants hide and seek with a bit more strategy really should buy a copy of Stratego instead! 😀 )

Lots of posts and watchers! Thanks all
To answer some queries:
I don't live near anyone else It doesn't matter. You will be hiding on YOUR grid, and someone will be tracking you down on THEIR grid. Let's say you hide in square J17. A seeker just has to visit the equivalent J17 on their grid, in order to flush you out. A player on the Isle of Wight could be found by a player in Sydney.
Can you stop seekers looking at WSW activity for clues? The HnS grid will be much bigger; the squares smaller; and the opportunities for hiding will come from a whole month of activity. So it'd take quite a bit of research just to establish which directions the hider tends to go in, and even then, no guarantee that they've used an identical home point.
Will the seekers be able to communicate? I'm hoping this will be a big part of the game. Elsie might report back that she's going to mine the south-east quadrant, whilst Daddy Shark patrols the boundaries, and flanker blunders around until he falls over someone
It'd be stupid to hide in the middle square Yes. If you do that, you're going to get found pretty much instantly. But maybe you prefer seeking anyway.
How will it work for coastal Fetchies? If you live on the east coast, put your home point a bit further west, so that your grid stays dry
Where's the skill? I'm not under the illusion that this is a complex game or one that requires a great deal of skill. It's just meant to be a bit of fun, and will not be everyone's cup of tea. Even games of pure chance can still be fun to play. There's definitely some skill involved in generating a diverse set of hiding options. Yes, the chances of being found will reduce the further away from home you get (see the WSW sorting hat below - it shows the number of visits ), but not everyone will be able to do that straight off. For successful seeking, good collaboration and a bit of research into the training notes of the fugitives will be key to minimise duplicated effort. Imagine how you'd feel if someone came right to the edge of the grid, and missed you by one square And getting the balance right, so that the first seeker doesn't hurt themselves is going to be a challenge for me

I think some people are overthinking it, Fetch.
I like the 'sorting hat' - it would look as a giant stone monument.

Oh, and the first thing I'm gonna do if I'm the inaugural lone seeker is to jump on my bike and go round the perimeter of the grid. That should smoke a few of you out of your nerd holes
