Sounds as if you need a skip and a ruthless person to deal with the garage, shyfire
I'm kicking myself a bit because I turned down the offer of an unwanted desk in good condition more than a year ago on the grounds of "no room", and now I could do with a desk for Fellmouse's room but don't want to buy a new one. I'll keep an eye out for something reclaimable.

Try putting a wanted on Freecycle, V'Rap. I usually look there before I post something on offers I cleared out my pasta cupboard. We eat a LOT of pasta, but even I was surprised how much we have! I need to reorganise my larder a bit, it's quite chaotic. Well, like the rest of the house. Though my dining room is STILL UNCLUTTERED!

No desks on Freecycle locally, but I could have a batch of empty plastic bottles and some offcuts of polystyrene coving

I started decluttering work emails today, deleted loads I don't need and saved the CYA emails to relevant files in my inbox. Still a long way to go but a good start.

Well, a breakthrough!
Mr has some strong historical reasons for keeping stuff he doesn't need, and in principle he agrees with me that thery no longer apply. His occasional sabotage is mostly unrecognised by him. I also know and recognise why I struggle to throw stuff out. For both of us decluttering is about more than simply chucking 'stuff'. But we are making progress Mr bought some cheap cutlery that we didn't need, and within minutes of showing it to me had recognised that we don't need it, haven't got room for it, and actually neither of us even like it. The sole reason for him buying was that it was cheap. So cheap that it is now in the charity bag along with the duplicate potato peeler Mr has now agreed in principle that he *would* like to live in a house where the only things on the floor are the feet of people or furniture. He's looking a bit worried now at my next stage suggestion that all horizontal surface become and remain clear. I'm not sure how we will achieve that, but I have 13 months to get there. I have 'a plan'.
