Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’m back here hopefully not so much lurking but doing!

I have been busy pulling stuff out of the loft, wardrobe, cupboards to name a few locations with aim to clear out the excess.

A friend of mine works with a charity supporting women leaving domestic abuse situations. We have given them a few things but they then switched focus to collecting Christmas items.

So I’ve collected things in our spare room and will be dropping them off in a couple of weeks, it doesn’t seem so wasteful to give pre-loved items to people who need them more than me & on top of that I had some office furniture to get rid of and managed to sell the desk tonight.

I’ve also been questioning every purchase and have to say the upshot is I’m walking away as I’ve got plenty in the house (exception was some new skins.... but I’ve got rid of 2 pairs of running tights in place of the 1 coming in)

It’s early days but I’m starting to feel lighter in my head already and it’s spurring me on!

Well done GG! Decluttering always makes me feel mentally lighter too.
Over the last few weeks we have gradually cleared the spare room/office. The floor is completely clear for the first time in years and I still get a loft when I look in there. We still have work to do but are chunking it down into a drawer/cupboard at a time.

Agreed, I love the feeling of getting rid of stuff. Tidied the 4th bedroom/office over Christmas and I also like seeing the floor now! But I’m getting fed up of still having boxes and clutter around after my move in November. But I can’t unpack any further as I don’t have wardrobes yet and will be having some plastering and some decorating done soon, so will only have to pack stuff away again. Looking forward to taking down the Christmas decks tomorrow, then that’s a few boxes into the loft and out of the way!

We took the decks down yesterday and put them back in the loft as much as I do love Xmas the extra clutter does my head in.

It’s nice to feel in control again.

Meglet we still have boxes from moving 9yrs ago I’m sure you’ll have yours cleared way before then!!

Great work B I’m looking forward to getting our little spare room back!

I opened a cupboard in my kitchen today and emptied lots of old porridge oats into the bin. I think the oldest ones were dated 2011.

I'm planning another wardrobe sweep. There are a few fancy frocks I kept last time round because I thought about selling them, but have decided I might as well take them to the charity shop. One of the places in the honeypot towns (I normally take stuff to Oxfam in Keswick) will get a decent price for them.

Last year I did quite well. Offloaded all eL Bee!'s old shop stock and some of my surplus knitting yarn, took a few bags of books to the local charity shop, and bought almost nothing.

I've just gone through five envelopes of photos and put the vast majority into two albums.

I need another bookcase. The corner one I ordered came today but one of the other two won't sit next to it properly because it's got overhanging bits at the top. Plus most of the shelves are already full and I haven't brought any books downstairs yet :-o

I also want to buy a sideboard for Putting Stuff In.

I’ve got a lovely bookcase for sale Carp 😂 goodness knows what I’ll do with the crap on it mind you!!! BIN!!!!!!!!

I have a massive box of photos to sort about 7 years ago I bought this lovely neat box with photo albums in and promised myself I’d do them over winter months.... still in the box and the new neat box still empty! Most of the photos can be binned as they are of absolutely nothing. All the decent photos are digital !!! No hope is there.

We have a box of photos all in the packets they came back from the develoers in. I'm sure if we went through there would be loads of crap ones that could be ditched, but I'd need to be very bored to do that job! :-)

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day."
