Hills of Death (HOD)
I'm really liking the sound of Ljubljana but not this year I visited on the way to Klagenfurt last year.
Although if anyone asks me where I did my sub 3.30 it's a bit of a mouthful

I'm not exactly sure how a group of us decided on going to Ljubljana to run a marathon HOD, it would have been a whole lot easier to go to Chester!
I know nothing about the place, but most folks who have been there, like you, seem to have liked it so it should be good

Thanks chaps, hopefully everything is up to date now. And the award for the most random place to go and run a marathon goes to Uyuni - I had to copy and paste the place name from your post or I'd not have had a clue how to spell it - how exactly is it pronounced?!!
SM6, CW and Uyuni, based on your shorter distance times, this should be a breeze for you and I know you also post on the faster threads. Just get some decent proper LSRs in (longSLOWruns) - i.e. 8-9mm in the main, but with some pmp and faster finish runs and you'll be grand, no doubts.

Clare - Surely Abingdon is a more random place to run a marathon than the capital of Slovenia
I actually might have taken care of 3:30 before Frankfurt, as I decided I'm going to run a marathon in the build up but I think I'll probably come in around 3:35. Done my first MP run on Wednesday, although I think the MP section coming in at 6:57 was a bit bold. Saying that, I reckon current HM pace is ~6:20 so it's not a ridiculous pace.

Ran a 'Bingo Run' on Sunday. It's a random length run of upto 20 laps (depending if your numbers come out of a bag). Each lap just over 1 mile. I'm obviously not lucky as I ran 18 laps, just over 20 miles. Still I suppose it is good practice! It was my longest run ever and I really wanted to stop at the end. Think I have a long way to go until Chester.

I managed to get in my 15 miles early yesterday before it got really hot, and achieved the planned 8:30 average pace :-). I've just got to get through this week's 16 miles which includes 10 miles at PMP ;-).

Well done chaps, getting the long runs in when it's so hot is not easy.
CW, at least the first 20 is done - as you get used to them they get easier. Looking at your log, whilst I don't 'do' kms really, I do know that 5m/k is approx 8mm and it looks as though most of your earlier kms were well below 5m/k and then slowed significantly. I'm not sure what your 'race' plan was / if it was meant to be competitive, or the time of day you ran (i.e. did it get hotter towards the end), but you'd benefit from starting out much slower and trying to maintain pace. For your first few long runs, keep the pace about 60s slower than your planned marathon pace (pmp). The first few miles will likely feel ridiculously easy / slow, but it should mean you can keep going for longer and feel better at the end if you finish strong. Then as you become accustomed to the distances, try to start slower and pick up the pace in the lattter miles. No better way to replicate the feeling of those latter miles of a marathon when you're running on tired legs.
