Thanks Cstar, I think I'll start with something a tad flatter though.

Can't do Chester, too far from home with the kids to justify it. Think I'm going to do Borunemouth as first thought but if Huntsman/WW are around I'd be interested in their feedback. Might just go over to the 3:15 thread (although the I'm not going to achieve that time, I think 3:30 is a much more reasonable target)

I did Bournemouth and Valencia last year. One I will avoid forever, one takes place over a super fast course in a great Spanish city with excellent / cheap travel connections.
I have also run Amsterdam as a very fast / flat Autumn marathon in the past. I've heard folks complain about the weather there, particularly the wind, but I had a great experience.
Glad to see that we've lured you over though CW!!

So, I've entered Chester! Mrs CW was fine with the longer drive in the end. Put me in the sidebar for The 2nd Oct
Now to start thinking about training plans :-S I'm currently running 40mls/wk so I was thinking of keeping that sort of volume and just lengthening my Sunday run and mixing in some marathon pace stuff. I did look at P&D but my brain can't handle the variation and it doesn't really fit my schedule. Am I going to come unstuck with this approach?

Very pleased to see your running Chester CW
My running club is Bournemouth AC, I live in Bournemouth and the second half of the Bournemouth Marathon course is bloody awful!

For my first marathon I followed a runners world plan which suited me fine, I swear by P&D now though. Longer weekend runs and some tempo or intervals midweek along with recovery run and a couple of general runs would be good CW. Good luck with your training
