Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

For those that have GFA experience...

The window for GFA achievements for the April 2023 race closed at midnight last night, with applications still taken this week. So does that mean that if your intent was to run April 2024 but you ran London yesterday that you'd probably need to apply for GFA for April 2023 and then defer to April 2024.

And if you do that, do you end up paying two entry fees?

Or does anyone think it is likely that the October 2022 London Marathon results will also be available to be used to apply for a GFA as part of the April 2024 marathon?

(Btw, thanks for the kind words about the way half of my chromosones got around London yesterday. He had 7 hours on the megabus to the North East at 5pm yesterday, I can't imagine how his legs must feel now!)

lark - if you wanted to use a 2022 time for a 2024 entry then I think you'd have to apply for 2023 and defer as you suggest. In my experience of deferring GFA entries, you do have to pay for each year and so you'd end up playing double.

I think the GFA window was narrowed to a year in recent times so I can't see a way that 2002 times will get you in to 2024. It used to be different, in days gone by one time could get you in for 2 years.

Sorry just jumping on here after having a quick browse at work. Just check whether you can actually defer GFA places now, because I seem to recall that you can’t. It was one of the changes they made when they changed the Champs time to 2’40 (I think?)

At the very bottom there where it says ‘What if I can no longer run?’ - in the blurb it says ‘GFA places cannot be deferred’

Larks, why can't you just apply for April 2024 in ... well, 2023/24?! Why apply now and defer (which might not even be possible, as LS21 said). Sorry, no help, just interested! :-) G

OK, thanks both - I wonder if the "can't be deferred" thing will continue, I know they struggled this year with having to make some changes because they were over-subscribed with roll-overs. e.g. clubs that had been told they were getting a new place this year were told quite late in the year that if they had a deferred entry rolling into 2022 that they wouldn't get the place they'd otherwise been promised.

It's in relation to my lad, I pointed out to him he'd need to apply by the end of the week but I'm pretty sure he won't want to be running in April 2023 so didn't want him to miss out on his chance for April 2024 if yesterday's run could still "count".

Aha. He'll just need to do another stellar time then! Do they still have GFA qualifying with fast half marathon times too?

No, I think that's champs only HG - and is now sub 1:12:30. If he does get back on the running lark then I think that would be too rich for him though the old sub 1:15 would have bee possible. Assuming he can just knock out a sub 2:55 whenever he fancies it at a low key cheap marathon I think he can be pretty confident of a GFA entry whenever he fancies it!
