Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Yeah saw her a few times pre race but I never see her at 9 miles because I can barely see straight at that point. Also I had forgotten about mile 8 being almost ALL uphill ;)

Curly - good to hear that confidence. You're a hard one to predict with much confidence since your training isn't logged here.

Nice to see you back in Stoosh. Tell me about Thursday's run (you can't be in *that* bad shape).

Hah yes I dont keep it except on a spreadsheet these days. Here what that tells me:
749 miles over the last 10 weeks (75 a week avg), 6 * 20+ including one 22 and one 24, one run with 8 @ MP (7:12avg)

Sessions 1-2 times a week, mix of long reps high mileage from MP to 5k pace and some shorter stuff later on in the plan at 3k upwards pace.

My only gap is a lack of races: I DNFed Woki half and Finchley was cancelled. Yesterday was my first long race for a while, but in the season leading into marathon training I ran quite a few XC races at 100% so actually felt quite raced out going into training. I think the break has actually done me some good in terms of being race sharp/mentally prepped.

Massage this morning - she has done quite a bit of work on the feet and achilles. Everything seems to be okay just tired and tight.

46 days (who knew it was forty days and forty nights in the wilderness, but they add six Sundays on for good measure?) streaking done, not much by many standards but pleased to have got my annual bout of Catholic fervour out of the way without mishap. Looking forward to the nice glass of red wine tomorrow night too!!

Part of me is tempted to continue with the 2 miles per day. Whether it was a light jog with my wife or my default 2 miles with one 440m lap at 5k pace or so, it never felt like it could in any way be over cooking my body and just contributed to generally feeling fit and well. I can see why some people stick with long term streaks if they keep the minimum run length fairly short.

Curly, that’s a great spell of training - your discipline and confidence in your training is admirable

PtB, good to see you posting again. Now you just need get off the couch, tie up those laces and get out there.

Doing upwards of 80 squats per day (building to 150! as recommended by osteopath) seems to be improving my niggles and I’ve also got a full week of training in. Half marathon in 10 weeks before preparing for an autumn marathon. As usual I am overthinking my training plans plenty of easy miles is straightforward but the correct combination of sub LT runs, tempo runs, intervals and hills is what I can’t get right.

haha ptb - my problem is speed this year. I've only just started running pain free within the last few weeks which has allowed me to get some consistent milage done. I'll get round London but looking more like a 3.30 job rather than what i'm used to chasing.
As for Thursday's run, it was long and painful and the first of quite a few longer runs towards my ultra goals for the year which start with the 95m WHW race in June. The plan was to attack a marathon pb at London this year before i got injured so had to re-assess my plans.
Hope your coming to an end of the injury that's been troubling yourself?

Curly, that training should put you in with a great chance of hitting your targets. Chapeau!

PTB - I'm sure the mojo will come back, when its ready to. It can't be forced.

Puzzler - You remind me I need to start doing the squats again. I'll join you in overthinking too :-).

No running for me today, I removed my middle toenail with tweezers this morning and it needs a day to settle down. Happy heart rate has settled back right down to its pre race record lows after exertion of 20 miler, and I'm not that beaten up physically after it. What it means for an autumn marathon, I'm not sure, certain aspects of training/running feel so right, (heart rate, general feeling running), others not so good (quads blowing after 15 at a perfectly sustainable pace, mental side querying is a good marathon possible again, weight creeping up during recovery with beer and chocolate).

I guess I'm disappointed that I nailed a couple of aspects that can haunt me (disciplined pace, and keeping perceived exertion and heart rate low) only for the legs to go.

Ouch Chrisull that sound horrendous!

Re: being disappointed. I think you just need to rationalise with yourself that you executed the plan perfectly (well done self), but that legs werent quite at the party.

On squats - peeps please make sure you are doing them properly. Many people can get as much benefit from standing on one leg with the raised leg in running position and arms to balance for 30-60 secs at a time as they can from squats! Puzzler aside as that is a rehab thing I would guess. I wouldnt do more than 20-30 at a time.

16 for me this morning, pretty dreadful, but I expected that after yesterday's run which was the same. No session until Thurs and then only a light one so another easy run tomorrow with friends which will hopefully bring the legs back from the dead a little.

It was dead, after a blister under the nail a week ago, and basically every time I run or walk, it banged against the bit under the cuticle and hurt, I've waited for them to drop out before, but they actually cause more trouble, get jagged and cut up the toe. Once they are partially detached (as it was), time to grit your teeth and dig it out ... eek.
