I used to try to understand FR's performances, and his posts about them. But never could. Certainly ""Doubt I can run a marathon at 75% without the wheels coming off and the last 10k being absolute torture"" makes no sense really for someone with all those years of running under their belt.

It is a huge band, but you're saying that you're outside it....?

I'm wondering about the margin of error? Is it like MaxHR being 220-age? Perhaps I'm just an outlier.

I reckon I get 5% drift over a half so perhaps on a full you could drift 9%?

FR - 220 - age can be way out. I am 43 so 220- 43 = 177, I got up to 195 in my 10k on Sunday with average at 189. Still not 100% sure on my max but see 198 in a race not so long ago. If you are basing you % on that formula then that could be the reason.

Don't use 220-age. Run up a hill a few times until you feel sick or look at the end of a 100% PB effort for a 5k. Both will be a good indication of Max HR.
Nice half WW.
Fenners you are an enigma.
My marathon PB was 84% average. Better conditioned runners would be nearer 89%.

Hunts, what was the average for the initial ten miles, and conversely the last ten miles. Just wondering if I'm getting hung up on starting at 80+%.
