Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I only tend to keep marathon medals. Medals and mementos from other distances have long since been discarded, especially the showy modern variety.

Bit of a shame really as all of those races can jog some memories. Most of the older marathon medals have gone a bit manky in storage so unless I can recover them, they'll likely go the same way.

UB storage in a box with contact between them is what causes them to perish. Hanging nicely on a rack in a warm house seems to preserve them longer 👍

I’ve Googled and wasn’t able to find it, but is there a start list for Abingdon available?

Just a quick post to wish DT good luck in Chicago and anyone else taking it on. I scored a PB round there a few years back and had a great race.
Beware the final rise into Grant Park, it's unwelcome effort so late in the race, particularly if you're on for a PB.

Also, run to the elapsed time and not GPS paces, there's a big underground section very early on which throws your watch out. I knew this and ran to real-time watch info instead. Worked a treat.

If you're nearby, the Sunny Side Up Café is excellent!

Run well!!

Great to read some old memories of first-time sub-3's in this thread.

Good luck to everyone racing Chicago (I probably will in 2025); today I had my last hard workout (10 miles with 2x4MP) so the taper for Amsterdam really kicking in now.

I could barely walk yesterday and still ache today. Felt fine during run Thurs. I know it is most likely taper related so staying calm for now, I have not experienced it as bad as this prev though from memory. Maybe age is a factor too.

Im back racing, kinda, who knows really, running is cruel that way
Ive had a few setbacks, too many birthdays really. Had really lost my way with running.
I realised i really like the craic and camaraderie during marathon training, but not actually racing a marathon. As nutty as that sounds.
Was asked to pace 20 miles, for some of my club mates who were trying for the sub3 in Manchester, and surprised myself by running in to the finish with 3’02.

In training I focused on marathon pace and speed work, i cant do 20 milers in training anymore.
And this is leading to Dublin marathon on the 27th, Im down to do a solid 20 miles at 3hr marathon pacing our club squad, do i have it to push for sub3?

its hard, its got 2 hills and another sneaky slope.
Ive failed twice at it in recent years, and said never again.
Ill report back on the 28th.

Garmin says im wonderful, Metathon not so much, theres 30 minutes between their predictions. But thats all hot garbage because they cant compute old man knees. And old man determination.
