Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

OO - Stunning 10k time in mid week and great that you intend to shave some more time off. I think 10ks work that way, you get used to the feel of a hard effort.
DT - Good luck also, with your background I think you will fly and run a good race.
TR - Hope the consultation does the trick.
Ger - Your son is rapid.
LMH - Watch that knee now, 4 weeks to go.

Can't be running 80+ miles regularly without getting injured, so a cut back week, generally easy running. Hope PR goes well for those running them today.

Hope the parkrun went well, Wardi.

Riggsy, sounds like you've a decent target to work towards.

Tr, you need to head north to race. Currently 10mph forecast! Hope you go well tomorrow.

Lmh, sounds like very good timing. Just need to get through next 2 weeks really.

Ouchie, very wise, no point running a block of big miles if you find you can't run for a month 8 weeks in.

Currently sat on a train to Carlisle where I then swap to a Newcastle train. Doing all I can not to eat my packed lunch for something to do, otherwise I'll be getting another by 2pm.

DT - have two lunches, eat to compete......I'm just about to make some tuna pasta for mine.....a train yo Carlisle and then one to Newcastle? Is that the route? They are different coasts

Good job I'm not eaging today it's blowing today.......to be fair it's always windy at Goodwood as in the countryside and so open.......if my sciatica was still a thing I wouldn't be able to take part, so that's a win.

Tr, yes it's an odd way about the journey. I went on a split ticket website, having a lovely ride through the lakes, though can't see much due to the rain and mist.

The train is the Edinburgh service which gets there 30 min sooner than I make Newcastle.

Yes, being there is better than it could have been for you for sure.

Think of it as carb loading DT19. Hoping for three more weeks with at least one twenty miler in each then an easy week. Would taper more for a target race but I just need to get that GFA time.

Hope your race isn't compromised by the wind TR - at least it's not actually on the coast.

LMH.. yes I don't remember a summer as windy as this one, tomorrow here is lighter winds but intermittent rain all day.

Hope you go well tomorrow TR, is there a 'right' way for the wind to blow for the runners? A westerly is favourite at my Parkrun as on the oval course you're only into the wind once for about 500m.

Ouchie.. a cut back week sounds sensible, enjoy the no pressure easy running.

DT19.. I assume you've got your feet up now, rest well and make the most of the conditions tomorrow.

Ran round the Parkrun with a clubmate who was 24 mins pacer. I've given up any racing for a while to get rid of this sciatica so decided on a steady run. My recent approach of less running miles plus 2 or 3 decent bike rides a week, plus the revised exercises seems to be working. Much less bothersome than 2 months ago. I did round this morning up to 11.8m with warm up & afters. Assuming I can get rid of it I can resume more varied training- I've had it for over a year now!

Best of luck @DT19 & @OO62. Very sensible weekends you're having so far.

Good news then @Little Miss Happy

Rounded my day off with a couple of Guinness Zero with dinner then 2 pints of a very pleasant golden ale (3.4%) in the George at Bathampton.
Parkrun this morning at the new one in Bath: Brickfields 21:49 felt hard but definitely didn't rinse myself as average HR was only 154.
Refuelled then set off to do my leg. Got lost en route round Yate & ended up making it with moments to go. Managed to get towards the front as with 100 teams on narrow paths I didn't want to waste unnecessary energy accelerating round slower runners throughout the first mile which climbs 415' after a fast quarter of a mile.
Settled in & the first mile was a 10:43. The climb continues for a further half mile at a much gentler gradient & I was reeling in the odd keen starter already. Once over the summit it's the reverse of the first mile & a half: gentle descent for half a mile before plummeting 470' in mile 3. Unfortunately not only is it treacherously steep but the footing is awful: loose lumpy rocks, a narrow gully & overhanging fallen trees! Passed 3 or 4 more here though. Went through 3M in 26:15 still flying down a grassy field. Then at 3.2M there's another steep climb to 3.5. More undulations in the next 2M take you to the 2nd big climb: 375' in 1.5M!! After that the course undulates for 4M before dropping 240' in half a mile, then a further half mile on you regain the lost height with a similar gradient. This last hill finished me as I'd been working with 3rdF to catch 2nd. She passed her in the last mile but I was cooked by then so closed with an 8:20 DH to finish in 28th place in 1:45:5x well inside my best case scenario of 1:49

About This Thread

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
