Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

FJ.. true grit getting up & down those hills on your relay leg, sounds like a good result for you. Enjoy the recovery!

DT19.. that's a great result for you on an undulating course. You certainly didn't leave anything out there!

TR.. no consolation but I'm struggling to get back to my 2023 paces, frustrating when it's in recent memory. Good that you got 17m done by staying with it after a disappointing start. If it is perhaps age decline it is very tough to fight against, though some seem able to slow it down.

Speedy.. good effort in your lonely 5000m race after the below par 1500. I last broke 20 mins for 5k about 10 years ago (mid 50's).

5.4m run this morning, got a brief wetting around half way. Took a gamble on a bike ride this afternoon despite the showery forecast, 23.3m done. Got away with one very light rain shower and got home 5 minutes before a black cloud released it's deluge. Light winds today for a change..

Sorry you didn't get what you wanted CC2.

That's some racing schedule OO62. Do you think the races last week impacted yesterday's time?

I don't think so LMH. I always race a lot. Legs feel reasonable today, hopefully fine by tomorrow.

Ah, leg 8: one of my favourites, FJ! (If I was to return to racing, it would be for fun stuff like CWR where it's all about placings, being part of a team, and enjoying the fantastic scenery. Although the super early start for leg 1 never appealed!)

Well done on the 10k, DT19. That sounded like hard work, and you gave it everything.

Likewise well done, OO. I know you're not pleased, but you were in the top 5 for your age group, which I hope you can see on reflection is still very good in a race packed full of age groupers.

The track can be unforgiving, Speedy, but it sounds as if the speed endurance is still there (decent 5,000m), just the top end speed is a bit lacking (tough 1,500m).

Sorry the 17 miler was tough, TR. I'd see how the next few runs go before deciding it's a sign you're not in any sort of shape, however: sometimes you just have a bad run!

No running (or exercise) the last few days for me. I seem to have picked up a nasty cold, and with a concert tomorrow I've prioritised making sure I recover from that. Fingers crossed it is now on the way out (at least I'm no longer sneezing about every 10 minutes, which I swear I was on Saturday).

Morning all. Busy weekend of racing guys.

FJ - that relay sounds tough. Well done. Thanks for the comments re my son, interesting to hear a coaches perspective.

OO62 - well raced and fwiw, I think that's a very good time. I'm sure you will keep chipping away at your times.

TR - I feel your pain. The last 2 half marathons I have done I have found a slog. Still a great training effort. I am sure things will click for you soon.

DT - brilliant racing on what sounded like a difficult course. Sub 36 should be doable on a fast course.

CC - well done on your track races. Two tough distances.

Joolska - get well soon.

Wardi - nice duathlon!

Ouchie - what was your weekly total with a cut back week?

Busy weekend here with my son's 17th birthday yesterday. Manage to bag a decent 20 miler on Saturday with about 7 miles at GMP, ended up being 7:45mm avg for the distance. Took on 3 Beta fuel chews, 2 gels and quite a few water and fuel stops. Legs and engine felt good and HR was around 150 or under for the MP, so I think there is a bit of wiggle room there with the benefit of 3 months more training. Running took a back seat yesterday as I spent the day with my son. Brekkie with my wife, his mum and her hubby, surprised him with a car for his birthday, he was very shocked and delighted. We then went for a lovely sea swim in a sheltered bay followed by 2 sets of tennis early evening. Absolutely brilliant memorable day. 48.5 miles logged last week.

TR - I meant to ask. Was it a half marathon race with a few extra miles tagged on? I was a bit confused.

Excellent LR @GerardM Really good to get that kind of confirmation that marathon training is on track

Sunday sounds a lot more fun though 😆
Day off yesterday to recover though I did get out for an hour on the bike to run a couple of errands.
Starting the P&D 12wk up to 55M plan today but rather than the standard rest day I’m bringing tomorrow’s 8M w S forward to today as I rested yesterday.

Get well soon Joolska.

Well done on the twenty miles Gerard and glad son et al had a good day on Sunday.

Which marathon are you aiming for FJ?

Good that your legs feel ok today OO62.

Gym for me first thing then just ten miles run. Decided not to push it any further as right knee was niggly. Hoping to manage a MLR tomorrow as Wednesday will be a rest day as I'm at work.

Barnstaple on September 28th @Little Miss Happy I've not entered yet as I want to make sure I do the first 3-4 weeks of training without incident.
Kicked off things off OK so that's a good start.

Was that c.80 minutes today then?

You seem to be managing your knee grumbles well LMH, hope you enjoyed the 10m.

Jools. I don't catch colds very often which just makes me more miserable when I do! Much sympathy; hope the concert goes well.

Gerard.. your son must have been delighted with his birthday treats and gifts. Well done on your 20m, sounds like your fuel & drink arrangements were spot on.

OO62.. congrats on a fine 10k time. From DT19's course description I would guess a flatter 10k would be worth 15-30 seconds. Good luck for your other races this week.

Another duathlon today, 26m on the bike this morning as it was the least windy half of the day. I will pop out for a run shortly.

My FIL became very poorly last week and was transferred to a Hospice at his own request, he seemed to know the end was nigh. He passed away on Saturday night with the family around him. Not too much sadness as he lived to 89 and had a good life.

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
