Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

But still a big rest compared to the 5 day efforts we’ve see which have been 2 hrs / 20min naps. I know the distance is different - it’s a sliding scale of rest v effort v speed over time.

Elapsed time was 14:39 on Day 2 and 15:13 on Day 3. Today's run hasn't been posted yet, but from the comments above, it looks as if it will be longer again. If it wasn't already clear, it's becoming apparent now what a tough undertaking this is.

17:10 elapsed on day 4, she'll run out of hours in the day if each 70 miles becomes 2 hours longer :(

The fall off in pace has been quite dramatic from Day 1. If the tactic of running a fixed 70 miles everyday then resting was working I would expect her to be much more consistent at this point and the tail off to be much more gradual if it was to be sustainable for 12 days. I can't help feeling that if she is going to make it in 12 days she will have to shift to a more continuous movement model with short breaks (2-3 hours?) every so often.

Day 1, when she was fresh, must have given her something of a false sense of optimism about what a day would look like, but now she's really getting into the heart of the challenge.

On the 70-mile per day assumption, it presumably looked feasible to keep going until the end of the day's route: at about 6mph that was 12 hours allocated of the 24 available. But at 4mph it's 17 or 18 hours a day on her feet and so, yes, the single rest/break strategy (if that is what it is) doesn't work so well.

Or it's possible that she knows what she's doing and has planned a change of approach as the run progresses :)

On the orange site :

Friday's run was called "Day 2...fuck my life!"

Saturday's "Day 3 - Started well ended in tears. Probably to be expected!"

and yesterday "Day 4...an emotional rollercoaster!

so not sure it's going quite as she planned/hoped ;-)

Who knows. Elite athletes and their gamesmanship ;) (Though I'm sure the accompanying profile of the run will make it fairly obvious whether she's actually doing OK or dying a slow and painful death.)

I saw those titles and it's difficult to infer anything at all without knowing the athlete in question.
