Is it automatically uploading from Garmin connect, then you're putting it in a second time manually?

was about to say that (ditto strava Sporttracks, myfitnesspal etc.)

At one point i had things being copied in all directions and it took a bit of planning just so that a entry ended up everywhere i needed it once and only once.

Many thanks chaps. Yes! I didn't realise there was an auto upload from Connect. Just checked my log before trying my upload and the runs are already there. Cheers :)

I've got a new laptop (yay!), running Windows 8.1, can't remember how many times I've uninstalled and re-installed the Garmin Communicator and USB software, but this morning it just won't play at all. The message I have from the device manager is

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function."

Am seriously considering going back to typing everything in manually. Can someone out there save me from such a low-tech solution?

KK, my downloads aren't always smooth, but I get there in the end. I am running Windows 8.1 and I have the following installed, I hope it helps:

Garmin Training Canter 3.4.5
Garmin Commincator Plugin 4.2
Gramin USB drivers 2.3

on 8.1 you're probably better going with Garmin Express as it is being maintained for the newer versions. Uninstall all other Garmin software before installing it (if you go for it)

Thanks Mr D and Flanker, I'll keep trying; it's been ok-ish for a couple of weeks, but yesterday I couldn't get the software from Garmin or Fetch to recognise that my Garmin 305 was there at all, even though it was happily charging off the laptop.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and Express happily chunters to my 220 via cable and my 310xt via ANT. And my Vivosmart. And Nuvi. #drownsinGPS

Just a little note to say thanks for all the comments here and via feedback. The test phase was useful for knocking off a lot of bugs, but there's nothing like the thrill of putting something live to really get that usability feedback flowing :-)

Here's the TO DO list following feedback from users:

1) Solution for only showing runs since last update - DONE
2) Links on successful import to allow direct route to edit/view - DONE
3) Avoid reloading data on choosing different time view.
4) Stop people pressing the button more than once - DONE
5) Auto detect sport where available.
6) Fix rogue pace zones (reported by Duchess, MacApple et al)
7) Max speed (for Mick173)
8) Smoother import of elevation data.
