Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Is it not the case that there is a 'grid' now, so that markers are only appearing on nodes of the grid? (I think Fetch did this to improve the speed of loading of the map - you can see the effect of the grid if you look at central London.) I've not noticed new markers appearing where I've marked old spots as inaccessible, but sometimes quite close by, even after more than a year of this new version of the game.

One odd thing I've noticed is that my bug-of-the-day rarely appears on the north-east side of the map, even though that's open parkland and I've not marked it as inaccessible. I don't think any other players would've marked it thus as there aren't many/any other players on that side of the map. This is quite handy at this time of the year because squishing a bug there means getting my headtorch out (as I did last night).

I've been registered for fetchpoint for probably five months, and there are still things that come up in inaccessible areas. While there may only be one or two now within the circle (also mine is quite similar to WSW grid), there are others just outside the circle as well. It definitely appears like a grid to me for fetchpoint. Roughly 40 positions high for my circle. Possibly the same wide. The number of points inside the circle is calculated in the following:

mathworld.wolfram.com

The sequence ( oeis.org ) shows that for radius 20 there would be 1257 if my counting in that sequence is correct.

I thought it would be quite a bit less than the Area formula (pi * r^2), but that gives 1256.6...

If you move your FetchPoint circle slightly (ie keeping the new centre point within the circumference of the original circle), does the system "remember" the old inaccessible areas?

I would hope so. I think the inaccessible markers are absolute. For example, I often mark things outside my circle as inaccessible, as I'm not wont to take a ferry into the bay nor row a boat.

As I understand it, inaccessible areas are independent of your circle, they're just points on the background map.

Along similar lines, there doesn't appear to be anything stopping you from going to your friend's circle (or enemy's), and marking all of the items in it as accessible. That would be a nasty prank. Don't even know if there'd be a way to stop that, unless it was just limited to your own circle (and then someone might be able to put their circle there). This game is fun, so hopefully no devious people are going to do that and ruin the spirit.

Perhaps someone is doing that with any diamonds that show up on my map... ;-)

At one point I was being very compulsive (I prefer persistent) and cleared all items in my grid (by running not marking as inaccessible) and was wondering if there would also be a bonus for doing that (as with clearing all bugs). Alas, no bonus. That was the last day I decided I had to plot my runs through as many items as possible. And possibly starting WSW swayed me away from doing that too. lol It's all great fun. :-)

I might plan capturing a diamond in my route if it was in the right-ish direction but don't worry so much about the lesser jewels so much.

I know what you mean alpenrose, but when I see the rubies glittering it makes it difficult not to try to grab them! Every little one helps. I used to be quite obsessive even about the emeralds.
