Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

You can get either I think, it's in settings .... well at least it is on older Garmin models. The same applies to hand-helds, you can set them to a wide range of country-specific reference standards

For newer Garmins, they don't supply OS Grid Ref as one of the available fields, however as long as the watch can get fields/apps/widgets from the Connect IQ store, then you can add a field called OS Grid Ref.

Gus - thanks for that. Bobs has got a 735xt and has the DW Maps app on it, I wonder if that displays grid refs? I suspect not actually, must look.

Fozzy - yeah, that's interesting. Is that a "new" LDWA event do you know? I was trawling the LDWA routes archive just the other day and found some interesting stuff, including "The Walden" route that DT and I did many moons back, but not this one. I wonder if it's a variant of The Dales Traverse? It looks like it could be.

Not sure, Quick glance at the route suggested it went high above Conistone, dropped back down to the Dales way, then Grassington, Linton, Mastiles La over to Hawkswick and then back to Kettlewell, but I didn't look at the exact route.

I just spotted it on Sientries when i went looking for something else, so no idea if it's new or not!

My Garmin Geko did grid references.

I think that was the only useful feature it had.

Phone app does it now.

Depends on the Garmin, Gus, my Fenix 6 has it as British Grid among about 50 other options.

Ahh, OK apologies for any confusion - did that just come in with the newer watches like 945 and F6 ? Certainly my Fenix 5 doesn't have it ( unless it has been added as part of a firmware upgrade and I haven't realised )
