I was more concerned with not damaging anything physical before the weekend's XC, than my reputation. I appear to have survived.

When you enter the main door of the hotel, bear left down the corridor to the Ball Room. There will be a welcome drink on arrival. Because there are so many of us now we would like you all to wear a name badge at the welcome drink, it isn’t anything formal just a sticky label for you to write your first name. Please collect this when you collect your place card. There will be a photo booth from 6pm situated in the foyer area just outside the Ball Room. It will be there until 12am so make sure you take the opportunity to pop in and get some fun photos with colleagues.

Or, worse, you are handed a sachet of Options or such? At the very least, the "People's Champions" should have a flask of hot milk handy and make it for you. That would establish a "transaction of value" and "enable a conversational moment". Although I expect may also contravene some guidelines on the handling of hot liquids (unless properly certified). As for the name badges: name and department, surely. Or job title. What about "name and favourite drink"?
