Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I'd like to use it for walks and cycling. Then I can keep my basic Garmin (which doesn't distinguish between training types) for just runs.

Running with a smartphone does make you fitter I suppose given the weight and size of them. I have also seen so many hit the floor at parkrun, expensive hobby.

I didn't used to run with mine but since I got a Flipbelt it sits snugly in there to the point I don't even notice I'm carrying it.

I would probably not use a Fetch app while I'm running but can see the benefit for those who do use their smartphone to record runs.

I'm another that will forever be Android only on my phone, but as I've got a GPS watch I'd have no need for a GPS logging app feature set from Fetch. There are so many mature products already out there for this, it's hard to see how it could improve on those and by now I'd be quite surprised if many really took up the feature if it was developed. My only caveat to that would be about positioning Fetch in the post-Strava paywall world, where I could see some people jumping ship who have only ever used their phones as their GPS devices.

Whilst FE is now far better than it was a few years ago via a mobile browser, it's accessing some of the site's content that I use a lot, potentially even offline, which would be the areas that would interest me.

For example, pop up notifications for watched threads, perhaps something of a more "social" view of mine / other's training (a-la Strava) including notifications, removing the need to turn the phone sideways to view some of the detail in training logs. I'm not a fetch game player, but if I was I could see the potential for an app-style view for some of those activities.

I use the strava app to follow the activities of those I'm connected to on there, but I still need / want to go to the website for some of the additional stuff. But I also know enough people for whom the website content of strava is a complete unknown - they only see the app-presentation of strava and believe that that is all that is offered.

Fetch's USPs for me are:-
- the responsiveness of the developer!
- the community of people, as seen via the forums and the blogs
- the amazing depth and inventiveness of the data presentation
- not for me, but the games do appeal to a lot of people

Any app, to my mind at least, has to focus on those things if they can be done better or more accessibly in an app. If it can't be done (and I'm no UI designer, I wouldn't have a clue!), I wouldn't waste valuable development time on duplicating a GPS recorded when there are so many others out there.

Just my tuppence though! And I'm sure Lord Fetch has thought all this stuff through and come to the right answers anyway - even if they are different to my thoughts!!

I feel like my data's safe with Fetch, which isn't something I feel with strava Runkeeper et al.

I do have a Garmin, but would welcome a non-data-stealing app for all those times i've forgotten to charge it.

That's my use case, too. Or when I run from work and I'm wearing my work watch.

Yep, maybe that's where I differ. I don't have too many cares about my data being shared / profited from. Perhaps that's naive, but so far I've got lots of nice free things in return for allowing my data to be used / sold / advertised to.

Plus I don't have a work watch, nor do I run to work (50m round trip would be a bit exceessive daily!)

I wonder what's been happening with the app over the last 11 days?
