Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I've signed up for Battersea Park marathon, 22 October. Might still only be a lower 3:20 attempt. Will have to see if I make any progress on tempos, MP, half marathon races etc. :-) G

Snowdonia's pancake flat course for me 28th October 2023, if we're getting autumn columns nailed to the mast.

My current times in everyone's calculator except Fetch - 3:09 - 3:11. Fetch's - 3:22. Fetch's is the most accurate, imho! I need to improve to have a sniff at 3:15. :-) G

Edinburgh half for me. Dip my toe back in the water and see where I go from there.

And here’s me thinking we might at least allow Bowman his ‘thread day’ before we opened up the sidebar!!

Ok, roll them out and I’ll try and keep up. I get the sense the Autumn will be quieter than the spring but let’s see. Chicago for me….

I always pay attention to pulse, it's an important indicator for me. The once I did a hot marathon (Vienna, late April) it was about 5pbm too high too early but I felt fine so I just went with it, suffering quite badly towards the end and missing what should have been a nailed-on sub3.

Though last year when I also blew up the pulse looks pretty much ok, just fractionally too high perhaps.

Sorry to read your tale of woe Bowman 🇸🇪.
Reminded me very much of my 2018 London experience.
I was in great shape & confident I was finally going to nail the sub 3 after 2 failed attempts. In the build up I’d run a 1:24 at Wokingham keeping HR<160 then a 1:28 at Wrexham the following weekend keeping HR<150. I’d also run a 20M in 2:14 on a flooded course.

On the day I knew I wasn’t going to be ok when my HR was in the high 160s after just 5K in spite of it being downhill at London. I didn’t adjust my goals though as it was all about pace. By 23M I was weaving across the road just walking through a water station! I finished but I really should’ve stopped.
Rest now though. Don’t make the mistake I made. I tried 2 more marathons one a fortnight & the next 6 weeks later. Both were tougher courses. I wasn’t recovered enough for the first & the 2nd was both hilly & extremely 🥵 No surprise I made no improvement 😆

Thanks Forrest Jooligan, and yes, maybe I have to try a few more times before shaving 15min off at the current pb in one go :) I already thought of doing my own marathon soon, in anger in sub3 😂but I should of course recover and do it right next time.

Stick me on the list for Chicago WW. I’m hoping to be there or there abouts, but if it’s not going to happen I’ll ask you to remove me from the list. It’s dependent on the foot, at least partly. I’m jogging around Salzburg marathon this weekend as a fun run, so definitely not for the sidebar!
