Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Second week, fourth ace.

How important is it to go at the correct pace? My threshold pace should be 7.41/km but I usually end up about 7.15, going reasonably easily. My long run should be 8.48 but I find it hard to go much over 8.15 without walking for parts of it.

The interval pace of 2.48 for 400m seems reasonable.

Jim, it sounds to me like the 5k time you entered is a bit soft if you find the pacing too easy.

Hello đź‘‹....

I’ve just started project joker with an attempt at a threshold run this morning. Was wondering, what category is the best to use for it in my training log? I’ve put it as a “tempo run” for now because I couldn’t see a threshold category. Is that right?

Hi Ness.

I've always put my PJ threshold runs down as tempo. I'd say they are probably the same thing...

Jim, as FF suggests is your 5k time a recent effort?

The other thing to think about is easy pace is meant to be really easy - as you've found it can be to the point of nearly walking. Personally I use these as a guide and go off my perceived effort too. So my feeling easy will be quicker than the PJ easy pace but it's still an easy run.

That used to confuse me too Ness, like RR I use tempo too. In fact I've just done a tempo run :-)

I've always used 'tempo'. It does seem a bit strange either to not have a 'threshold' category or to call it a 'tempo' run in PJ.

I would say that the time I entered was a "normal" 5k, although not my fastest.

Think I'll have to declare jokers for all my sessions this week. I went out in the rain on Wednesday morning and was generally grumpy, out of sorts and cold, so it barely counts as a run. I've had niggly calves too, and yesterday I could feel them pull when I got out of my chair, so think it's a good idea to rest, stretch and roll today. Maybe see how I feel on Sat/Sun.
