Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’m fairly confident I’ve always had a barcode and my first parkrun was February 2010, so 2009 could well be correct.

Mention in a Glasgow parkrun event report of August 2009 that barcodes were being rolled out, but had not reached Glasgow yet. By mid September they had. Later mention that Christmas Day 2009 parkrun would be barcode only, and that full implementation would be in early 2010.

Long before parkrun was ever a thing we used to get a little metal token at club time trials. You’d take that to a table where they’d write down your name. The results would be published in the newspaper!

Numbers at my local are reducing and are less than half of their peak numbers on the last two runnings and down by 150-200 on what I would expect normal numbers.

I know its that time of year and the weather is mixed and also some people may be uncomfortable with risks. I am surprised though at the drop off in numbers for what is essentially a pretty low risk (of covid) activity.

Baz, we are seeing the same thing but I reckon it is just the weather coupled with people being busy sorting stuff for Xmas.

Was quiet at Delamere too this weekend; wonder whether it was just Christmas party hangovers or Omicron? Weather was good.

Have you got new local events Baz? We’re well down on numbers but have 2 new ones very close. Total across the 3 is up on pre-lockdown numbers at ours.

Yeah Larkim, people I spoke to all said that the parkrun they did was quite quiet. I did a new course to me so not entirely sure but looking at numbers for my local they were quite low.

Assume its normal leading upto Xmas before a big jump in January.

Good news as Torbay Velopark have announced they're doing both Xmas Day (9am) and NYD (time not confirmed I don't think). Last time I checked there weren't that many locally going ahead on Xmas Day, so it will be nice to get a run out at the one 1.5 miles down the road from me. Thanks to all the volunteers that make these things happen for us parkrunners!
