Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

parkrun 244 for me this morning - a truly miserable 49:19 trudge round Victoria Dock. It used to be a single lap U-shaped course, but now it's a two lap out-and-back.

That sounds like a very uninspiring course change Andy. I guess that's down to complaints about noise from the apartments on the south side. When I last ran there we were aske to be quiet and give the marshal a silent thumbs up.

I was Whamageddened at Alice Holt today when one of the marshals was playing Last Christmas :)

First time there in a long while but got a course best although my official course PB was set on their old course with "Sawdust" hill.

Managed to get fifth at Prestatyn in a low turnout. Also managed to sneak a 70 wava, which was more pleasing as had to stop to help the runner in front who got knocked over on the narrowest part of the course by two dogs. By the time I got there to help both he and the lady were on the floor wrapped in the extendable lead she had an utter lack of control over. Took us a little while to untangle it all

Hope it doesn't have a knock in effect on the viability of the parkrun

That doesn't sound good bonners - I assume the woman with the dogs was not running.

No, she was walking her dogs and had little control. We were very diplomatic, helped her up and apologised, even though she probably was at fault. So I'm hoping the smiling approach will mean she doesn't complain.

Steve still got up and beat me, lead burns and all😁

PBs galore at Teignmouth Promenade today (although not for me) with 31 of the first 50 finishers showing a PB. Emergency roadworks at one end of the course necessitated the use of an alternative course (which has been used before). My Garmin measured about 3.02 miles and I think that is probably pretty accurate on this occasion.

StuH - Victoria Dock - nothing to do with complaints from anybody.
Up until last week the area around the Crystal had been boarded off while they renovate offices for the London Mayor which also meant that use of the hut for storage/toilet and drinks was lost.
Renovation work had also been going on around the dockside cranes that resulted in little access to the south side paths.
Several rejigs to the route were made to enable the local community to retain a Saturday morning run that required few marshals ( whilst it seems that there are reasonable numbers of runners most are visiting so, the event relies on the same people nearly every week ).
Course hasn’t reverted back and further adjustments may be needed once Excel start developing on the northern side.

Presume accompanying some special case runner who can't do the funnel? However justified, if they need special treatment, they need to be able to explain it patiently and clearly every time without exploding.

If that is the case then due to the nature of parkrun, and needing to explain the situation to multiple timers and token volunteers each week, and expect them to remember the strange requests the RD gave them, is just a massive cause for confusion.

Would be far easier to just let the RD know each week that person X ran with person Y, and they manually add in the extra person to the results afterwards. Much less need to be confusing multiple volunteers each week and sharing the personal situation with multiple strangers. Just get the RD to tweak things quietly in the background and reduce the chances of confusion and conflict.
