So, after a few "happy" hours spent looking at this, it seems that the fundamental issue is the Garmin Express isn't really playing it's part.
My version of Connect has two devices on it - my 405 which requires an ANT+ stick to connect, and my wife's 110 which connects via the data/charger cable.
It did work last Friday - and nothing on my setup has changed since. (Barring any sneaky updates at the Garmin Connect site end of things....).
On Saturday morning it took several goes to get it to the point where it claimed the data had been sent, but I didn't get to check it on the Connect site. Subsequently, I've found it's not there!
Data from my wife's watch went fine, and is in her account.
Monday's run however, didn't even upload. "We were unable to sync with your device", several times, then apparently a success - except when I checked, it wasn't on the Garmin site. (It's not showing on my wife's account either - I did have that thought!).
I put the watch onto "Force Send=Yes" in settings, and restarted everything. Basically, it runs for about 30-40 minutes at a time (presumably attempting to send everything on the watch) before failing and automatically restarting.
I left it to it overnight, but this morning despite a lie on the screen about data being uploaded successfully, it isn't.
My next step is to de-install/reinstall Garmin Express and rediscover the watch! If it works, I suspect I'm going to get the previous 30 days data uploaded, so I'll try to remember to remove Fetch's permission from Garmin Connect until after I've edited the duplicates!
And I think I might just reinstall the plug in for the ANT stick and revert to doing it manually!
(Anyone managed to get an Android version of this working, yet? Christmas puzzle, maybe!)

Just done the auto upload thing for the first time and it worked perfectly. In fact the run arrived here in no time, and took a bit longer to get to strava so much that I was looking at strava settings until it appeared. First time with 'new' (to me) Garmin 910 and ANT.

I only have a 110 but when I was having a bit of trouble a while ago I cleared the memory and haven't had any more problems since, and it uploads much quicker.

Finally! After a few more hours messing around, deinstalling Express and reinstalling the original Garmin Plugin and ANT+ agent, it's there. Hooray!
Data between Garmin Connect and Fetch - no problems.
It's Garmin, flippin' Garmin, who seem to have written some rather bizarre and random client software that fails in different ways on different days. A bit of research on line tell me I'm not alone in experiencing this - and that Garmin don't have the answers!

yep, far better with the Ant Agent. They've had time to work out how it should work and then actually make it work that way.
Express seems to be a bit of a princess when it comes to local PC configurations

I thought Garmin had disabled the upload to Garmin Connect via Ant Agent now so you have to use Garmin Express to upload your data? It certainly stopped working for me in October so I had to move to Garmin Express, which to be fair has been pretty stable so far

For balance, there are well over a thousand people using the new system now, and only a handful of issues.

Ian, no, Ant Agent still works fine. I've never installed Express.
