Not sure it matters anymore who is in the second car at Red Bull.

They had to replace Yuki's suspension overnight, so I think this weekend his car was compromised at least at one point. But I was struck my Max yelling about his car being broken etc (despite putting in fast laps consistently on the soft tyres) so maybe what he was feeling and driving around was also compromising Yuki to a greater extent. It always feels like to me in the discussion about the RBR second seat that commentators are missing a trick by simply saying "as the fastest driver on the grid, we don't even think Norris or Leclerc or Piastri would match Max in the same equipment, so no idea why we expect anything close from Yuki, Liam or even Sergio". It wouldn't surprise me if Max was 0.1s at least faster than anyone else, especially in a car that isn't absolutely dialled in. |

Yay to extra point for Alonso and everyone else 4th to 10th! G I think I find the punishment far more annoying than Verstappen himself. I mean didnt Schumacher get DSQ from the championship for deliberately hitting someone? Verstappen didnt even get DSQ from the race! |

That was the second time Schumacher deliberately hit someone. He won his first championship by deliberately hitting Damon Hill...

I heard the "excuse" set forward that Max's intent was to allow Russell to pass, and then to instantly try to re-pass before the next corner, hence the acceleration. Find that hard to buy tbh, but interested in others' views; I can see that being a legit tactic providing all driving rules are obeyed, but that didn't feel like the corner where that was going to happen. In other news; Stroll's hand injury may also have been caused by a temper tantrum causing previous surgery to flare up (apparently after his exit from quali he was throwing stuff around in the garage / motorhome and abusing mechanics). |

Problem with that is that George never did get fully past.

Absolutely; but if that story were true it would at least change it from "Max deliberately drove in to George" to "Max made two errors and ended up driving in to George".

Good - we seem to be agreed that if he tries to roll that story, he's talking out of his exhaust pipe.

Both previous times I can remember someone intentionally bumping to a car with no damage (Vettel in Baku; someone in qualifying 10-15 years ago) it's been a standard minimum penalty for causing a collision. They've only given disqualifications (back in the day) when it has impacted someone's race. I think the rule should be stronger and it should be basically a sending-off and a one race ban. But I doubt drivers or promoters would want that. Strangely, I think the worse Yuki does the less pressure is on him. He's not getting the same criticism that Perez was getting for similar (or better performances) as the narrative of the undriveable car is there. If Yuki suddenly gets a podium in Canada there will be pressure to keep it up. If he finishes 9th after going out in Q2 expectations will stay low. Giving Perez a long-term contract last season seemed crazy, but buying him out of it to improve the second driver now looks just as bad. |
