We have been asked to "be quiet" once. We didn't realise it was a quiet campsite and no noise after 9pm (or 10pm st the very latest). We were just sat outside having a drink and a charger but once we knew, we stuck to the rules.

Ronnie, we were at one a couple of weeks ago and a MoHo tuned up at 2:45am and started setting up very loudly. Banging, shouting, letting the dogs run and calling them back - all very loudly! This was at a very small site, which was otherwise idyllic

We’ve done a combo of wild camping and ehu on campsites! My son sleeps in the awning if we are camping or in the roof when we are wild! We have an electric fan heater for when we are hooked up and an electric hob but still use the gas to boil the kettle because the hob seems to take ages! When we’ve had soaking wet kit the fan heater makes a real difference to help dry stuff out!

Quick question from a lurker who is still researching the possibility of a van..
Do vans get colder than tents? All this talk of heaters confuses me, or are you talking January ?

Mr S has just invested in a liner that goes inside the Cali pop up, supposedly to help keep it a bit warmer in winter.
We want to use our camper for wild camping because we may want to get away to take sunset or sunrise photos. So we'll be looking for places that don't mind an early getaway.
Plan is to get away for a few days week after next, maybe using Britstops around N.Yorkshire and then somewhere near Birmingham for the photography show. Mr S is reluctant to book anything. I just hope we can find places now the schools are back.

I would say that a van is warmer than a tent, RH. We've never needed to 'wrap up' in the evenings like I remember from camping. We set the thermostat to 15* overnight and the heating rarely comes on in summer.

Our van is insulated and lovely and warm, we haven't really stayed out in the depth of winter and if we have used the heater it has only been for a minimal amount of time as I dont like to be too warm

If you sleep in a regular panel van, or one with just windows, it’s cold IME. If it’s a camper and has some insulation and blinds / curtains, it will be warmer. I often find the first night in the MoHo is colder in bed (so I bought an electric blanket for when we’re on hook-up). Like others, in winter I’ll leave the heating on low overnight.
