The Motorhome Depot man has been. Seemed to know his stuff and gave us a price which is considerably higher than a dealer would offer. Fingers crossed.

That sounds promising. We have been off looking at caravans today- not my idea, OH's. Jeeps going on about motorhomes (I don't want one) so caravan is another option. Personally I am more than happy with the VW

That’s interesting MM. We have a MoHo and my OH doesn’t really like it, but that’s more because she’d rather be in a B and B or hotel…

Hi all, just thought I would give a quick summary of our recent trip.
OH has 3 weeks off work so we planned to go up to Scotland, travelling from Devon, for a total of 2 weeks. It is a long way from here, so on the way up we stopped in Yorkshire Dales (1 night) first and then onto Loch Lomond (1 night) before driving to near Isle of Skye (2 nights). From there we went to the North Coast and stayed 2 nights near Altandhu, over to near Thurso for one night (not on the NC500 route) for parkrun, Scourie for one night (we wish we'd had more time here), and Cairngorms for two nights. We then stopped off in Preston on the way home at a CL, and had two nights in Bath. We tried to break the journey up so it wasn't too much driving in one day and that worked well.
We had heard a lot of the stories about Scotland being absolutely rammed on the NC500 route in particular, but we honestly had no problems whatsoever. Maybe it is because we were there outside the school holidays? No queues of traffic and very, very quiet on the vast majority of the roads. We wouldn't usually have done this as we prefer flexibility, but we did book the sites in advance - if we go again at this time of year I don't think I would other. Some where better than others; one we probably wouldn’t go back to, a couple we definitely would, and on driving around we saw some places we would love to revisit and stay longer (Loch Levan looked lovely, for example).
Highlight from a campsite point of view was Moyles (near Glenalg, which I posted about recently). Truly stunning around there. Highlight from a scenery point of view was possibly seeing a pod of about 8 dolphins off of a place called Waterlines. We were stood on the pier by the lighthouse, with no one else around, and there they were. I live on the coast and often see porpoises (which can be confused for dolphins), but don’t often see dolphins and it was a special moment.
There were lots of ‘wow’ moments, and overall the driving experience was really, really good. I enjoyed the driving a lot. Around every corner the scenery changed, we walked the dog on deserted sandy beaches, stopped off at some fabulous coffee places, ate some great seafood and had a really relaxing time. I ran every morning (apart from the place in Preston), and I loved it. I enjoy running in new places anyway, but Scotland was something else. I saw deer, birds of prey, seals, and generally I was running with no one else in sight and no traffic. In Bath, I ran through the Two Tunnels, one of which is a mile long (I did an out-and-back so ran it twice) and it is the longest foot tunnel in the UK, and that was really special. Really cool conditions inside, and great running with the place lit by dim lights.
We had no issues with the van, although the AC isn’t working (the place we bought it from have agreed to re-gas it FOC), and on the last day we broke the water pump connector to the water tank (which looks easy to fix), but other than that all was well. We did 2001 miles all together, and it has averaged nearly 45mpg. I don’t that is bad really as some of the roads in Scotland don’t lend themselves to ticking along at 60 in 6th gear, so I am happy.
We are back for a few days and then going to Cornwall next week for two nights to see a couple of shows (one is a gig at Eden Project, and the next night an outdoor theatre show at Minack theatre) and we are taking the van again.

Sounds good. We also found the NC500 no where near as busy as folk say. That was the first week of school holidays.
