A choice of 4 distances is inclusive, along with the option to start when you want. It’s taking shape nicely 😊

I don't think having complete flexibility in starting times, like you mentioned a couple of pages back, would work for those at the more competitive end of things. The whole idea is, and your rules say the winner is, to be "the last person standing" - but if someone can start at say 6pm (with the majority starting at noon), then the leaders from the noon start won't ever know how many laps the later starters will do, so they won't know if they need to do another lap or not. Hope that makes sense. I'd say you have a main start time, and if anyone wants to start earlier then that's fine, but ideally no-one starting later than the main time. If you want to be as inclusive as possible, then maybe allow later starts, but they are not in the competition as such, just doing it as a personal challenge. If the whole thing is really just a personal challenge for eveyone then complete flexibility in start times will obviously work, but if you are trying to replicate the competitive side of Backyard Ultra races, then it won't work. |

For me it will be a personal challenge, can you do one mile or the other distances just before the start of the hour and then go on for the next hour, giving more rest between? Walking a mile each hour appeals but unlikely to get up in the middle of the night to complete it.

I think I'd be in favour of a single start time; we'd all be in it together then. Otherwise it's just everyone doing their own thing.

I would also favour a single start time, I love the idea of all Fetchies setting off en masse, makes you feel part of something even if you're in a far flung place.

I think there’s room for competitiveness and flexibility. How about we say that folks can start as early on the day as they want; but the cutoff start time is midday. Allows those who need it to start sooner, and doesn’t give them a big advantage.

So most of us will start at midday so there'll still be a mass start.
