Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

No 2 on your list would be great - I had that (Virtual Partner) on my old Garmin 205, but it's not avialable on my 235 and I really miss it

I hated that virtual little man - I was always trying to beat him instead of running with him!

So pleased to see this. I intend to log all walking/cycling on this, rather than my Garmin (my Garmin also feeds my coach's site, so I have to keep removing my non-running WSW activity from there).

Given this, all I need to be a satisfied Android App user is the functionality: start, stop and the route taken between the two :-)

Happy to be a tester.

And as for *that* reviewer, probably knows sod all about software development and has never heard of an mvp.

Here's the first flight:

fetcheveryone.com/t-17260230

Not a great start, but I sussed out what was happening - it wasn't recording locations whenever the phone screen locked up in my pocket. So what you're seeing on the above, is every time I took it out of my pocket to look. I thought I'd configured the app so that it had permissions to check location whilst the screen was locked, but apparently not. It should be a fairly easy fix though.

We were delivering some stuff to my MIL, and combining it with a dog walk. On the way back, to test my theory, I kept nudging the phone screen to keep it awake, and the trace is much better on flight 2:

fetcheveryone.com/t-17260280

The route includes several stops, to deal with a couple of dog poos, and to chat to someone Katie knows.

The trace is quite wiggly, but not as drastic as I thought it might be. It's never more than a few metres out at any point. Each wiggle tends to add a bit of excess distance (Katie used her Garmin at the same time, and it reported less distance, even though she forgot to stop it when we got home: fetcheveryone.com/training-log-view.php?id=17260563 ). Looking at Katie's trace, the Garmin averages one data point every five seconds, whereas the app is currently one per second. If I reduce the number of data points, this should make the trace look smoother, and also result in less battery and mobile data usage too.

There's no pause button with this installment of the app, so that problem gets kicked down the road for now. And in theory, at the end of your activity, the data doesn't get wiped until there's a successful response from the server - so we should avoid the iPhone app problem, where your data is lost if you've got poor connectivity when you try to save.

I've got a few relatively minor things to resolve now - so hopefully I can get those knocked off soon. And once they're done, I'll suss out how to get it onto the Google Play store. In theory, I can make it available to a closed test group - so thank you to everyone who has thus far volunteered.

Happy to test too. My use case would be Start, Lock, Bury in Bumbag, Run possibly in rain, Stop Running, Retrieve from bag, Hit Stop. Hope that would be relevant test case? :-) G
