Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What were you shamefully old when you first realised . . .

I was fortysomething when I discovered that I was tying my shoes wrongly, so the lace sat badly and came undone easily. Turning one left over to a left under made for nice neat bows which stay tied until you unlace them.

I'd never heard of the World Trade Centre until the day the planes hit it.

(I'm enjoying these, similarly astounded by Billericay being in Essex.
I'm sure I've got some...)

I only know Billericay is in Essex because 20 years ago I moved about 8 miles from Billericay. It sounds Irish to me. Ought to be in Tipperary.

I was in my 20s when I realised I'd confused nettles for thistles and vice versa. In my head "nettles" is a harsher word and real thistles (what I called nettles) look meaner!

I didn't realise until my 20's (and had spent a good 5+ years dealing with medical records) that the name Siobhan was pronounced Shiv-awn rather then my assumption of Sigh-O-ban.

Just because we only ever holidayed on the South coast, didn’t mean all seaside resorts were there...
