Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

What were you shamefully old when you first realised . . .

Similar to HappyG but muuuuch older - I read the entire first Harry Potter book out loud to my daughter pronouncing Hermione 'Her-me-own-ee'.

I'd never heard of the name Lois when I was a kid. Didn't even see the O and the I in the right order. So when I read Superman comics, I saw his girlfriend as Lee-os Lane.

That the triangle on a car fuel gauge is actually an arrow to the side the fuel cap is on.

I used to work in commercial property lending, and developed an unfortunate habit of referring to Knight Frank (global property consultancy) as Frank Knight (geezer from the boozer - probably).

Chagrin ensued.

Good effort um. That's an odd one - I remember being gobsmacked when someone pointed it out (certainly within the last 15 years) - and I'm still finding it isn't that well known.

That the latin-American called Jesus (in mails) was 'Hay-zu' on concalls.
Same for Jorge, who was 'Hor-hay'.

(no disrespect intended to anyone, just my blinkered assumptions)

(Triangles & fuel gauges - I only found out about 10 years ago - but after 100s of car rentals in many countries. Unfortunately it was my bosss who took great delight in explaining. Fortunately there were a whole group of us in the same situation, so his delight was well spread out)
