Similar to HappyG but muuuuch older - I read the entire first Harry Potter book out loud to my daughter pronouncing Hermione 'Her-me-own-ee'.

I'd never heard of the name Lois when I was a kid. Didn't even see the O and the I in the right order. So when I read Superman comics, I saw his girlfriend as Lee-os Lane.

(Triangles & fuel gauges - I only found out about 10 years ago - but after 100s of car rentals in many countries. Unfortunately it was my bosss who took great delight in explaining. Fortunately there were a whole group of us in the same situation, so his delight was well spread out)
