But there it's about event having known links. It's different from saying a 44 sec 400m is equivalent to a 3:27 1500m as per the point in your previous post.

I think we're all saying the same thing!!
I posted that points give equality of performance (to a degree) but it assumes equality of capability, which inherently is flawed.
Algorithm calculations also assume equality of performance and assume equality of capability, and for aerobic distance running there is more logic and science to support it (but even then it remains flawed, it is just a generalised model which has large numbers of people outlying it), but as I think we all agree the equality of capability breaks down when comparing a sprinter to a distance runner.

SPR - If I am allowed to join the side bar - sub 2.20 800 is my only goal of note for this thread.
I got back on the track in 2019 and ran what is listed below having not raced since 2011 100 - 14 200 - 28.4 400 - 62.8 800 - 2.22.4
Target was and still is sub 2.20 for 800, other distances were just seeing where I was. Got in good shape and on the day of the 800 the wind was terrible.
I'm a vet 50 so this would be ok

I agree we are all saying the same thing. As a pure distance runner, even Reigel breaks down for me below 5k as I simply don't have the energy pathway to deal with the pace.

More training at LV with the jumps group this morning. They're all being 'tested' atm (timed distances and measured jumps) but I'm excused. For now. Must ask coach to time my 60m as there were no non-elite Indoors this year and it's my best distance.
If my 60, 100 and 200 bore ANY resemblance/relevance to what I could do 5k and up ... I probably would be posting somewhere else.

Agreement is good. What you could potentially have is some sort of minimum capability standard along the lines of ~ 54 sec 400m is the minimum speed needed for a sub 2 800m runner?
Gobi I've added you.
Larkim, any targets/ distances that you want listed?

numbers tell the story Sharkie but I keep getting sucked back
2011 I ran 2.12 off a 61.x 400 with a sub 1.35 600 in training, believe I was capable of 2.05 but didnt come off
It did make me believe that sub 2.20 was on when I ran sub 63, even thought 2.16 if I got the right weather and ran 2.22.
I also ran a totally unprepared 1500 in 4.55 - 14 seconds from my best so strangely probably a better run than my 800

LOL, SPR, don't think my feet will be touching a track this year. Not feeling up for it generally, and my 1st claim club may not even get to any League meetings.
If I had a target it would be 3000m at 10:59 or better. Not a PB, but I am where I am, and happy to have that on the sidebar "just in case" I make it to a meeting.
