I'm cheering for you both on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

I'm not sure yet but there may be a New Year's Eve run in a town about 20-25 miles away from my parents' house where I'll stay over the holidays. Before covid, they used to have 5k and 10k there. Maybe I'll do the 5k as a test run as I haven't got a fast 5k this year yet. If weather conditions are not too bad - one year, we had to cancel it because it was so icy that it was too dangerous to even drive there.

The marathon went well, I finished in 3:48, a bit slower than what I wanted (3:45) but given that it was really warm, it was okay. I finished strong, overtook a lot of people on the final 11k downhill into Athens. The 13k uphill before that were steeper than what I remembered. :-D Back in 2014, I was still living in Wales so most of my training runs had significant elevation while I'm now running mostly on flat to rolling courses. I don't have longer hills than about half a mile so 8 miles of mostly uphill is a challenge, starting at 11.5 miles going all the way to 19.5 (18-31 km for the metric folks on this thread).
If I compare the marathons before Athens in 2014 and 2023, I ran 3:37:15 in Manchester in April 2014 and 3:34:59 in Chester 5 weeks before Athens in 3:46:39. This year, Leipzig in April in 3:29:36 and now Athens in 3:48:39. On the flat, I'm definitely faster than I used to be but I miss the hill training.

10k training is going well, 2 weeks after the marathon I'm back in the game, hitting the goal paces in my workouts most of the time. Last week, I ran 2 half marathons with different team mates on different days and that went well, both easy and under 2h.

Have very much enjoyed reading through the 10k chat - didn’t know this thread was here!

I’m also looking at targeting a 10k in the early new year and would love to join the party. I’m fairly clear of 40 minutes again now, with a 36:06 10k split in Sunday’s half, but definitely not a happy 10k runner!

I’ve always found it a very tricky distance to nail - so much can vary from race to race, where I feel I can be much more consistent in 5ks/halfs etc.

Racing a potentially fast one this weekend and have no idea what a reasonable result would be.

35:50 or thereabout for 5.84mile Borders race today, absolutely chuffed to bits with that as it brings me back to where I was pre-Covid, as that was the last race I did before the lockdown when I was feeling like I was really on top form. Probably not quite in the sub 38 form that I managed the year before that, but a solid mid 38:xx if today had extended to a 10k. Getting old isn't so bad.

Welcome Miser, good to have you here.

Well done larkim, that's an awesome time! Did they change the course in Wrexham? I remember that it was only 4 miles there, the first part of the Village Bakery Half, but that was pre-Covid.

Not getting to run my end of November marathon due to car problems now means I should be fit and raring to go for the NYD 10k. Every cloud etc.
Decided to more or less follow one of the 80/20 plans.
Due to lack of car whilst it’s getting fixed I have been doing more run commutes (well bus run). So more miles in the bank.
