Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Lovely choices Steve, that Darrell Banks track is one of my faves :-) The label (Revilot) is the surname of the label owner (Toliver) spelled backwards. Interestingly, the Goldmine CD lot based in Todmorden bought the licensing rights to Solid Hitbound and the result was a double CD of Darrell Banks' entire back catalogue, it's quite rare by CD standards. His other really great record is "Somebody Somewhere Needs You" if you would like to give it a try.

The Contours - I had that bloody record on a lovely green demo and sold it to a dealer at Prestwich for just £30, fool that I am!

^ Great tune; edgy, raw - and I can hear every word. :)

Darrell Banks - 'Somebody Somewhere Needs You' - a smoother, mellow tune. I am learning how broad the Northern Soul 'church' actually is. :)

Just anecdotally (seeing as we're on the subject), a one-off copy of "Open the Door to Your Heart" on UK London went for nearly £15,000 a few years back. Believed to be the only one in existence, God alone knows how it was found.

Turns out the Funk Brothers did an instrumental, whether this is the original backing I don't know.

Having a bit of a musical evening here and found some old gems. Just curious, has anyone heard of Ebony Alleyne? One of Ian Levine's proteges, she has a lovely voice but unfortunately never really made it big time. Some of her best records were given the full monty in terms of production, they're really nice - see what you think.
