Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Gerard that's wonderful, Thank you. I'll Whats App shortly. I really think it could happen.

Joolska - it's amazing how animals adapt to things like that. Good to hear he's doing well. Cold here too!

Didn't get out for my run until around 1100hrs which meant that it was slightly warmer than yesterday's though conditions underfoot were not as good, fortunately it was only a little slippery in places. Working tomorrow so that's me for the week.

Joolska - ah, nice one. They are remarkable creatures. My son has a short haired silver tabby who doesn't really like humans and another one a ginger oriental and she literally is my son's shadow. I think she is obsessed with him. Lols.

LMH - Ah great, I do hope so. As you said, something to look forward to. Chat soon.

Still working away here, Runch was cancelled but will try escape at 4 before it gets dark. It's absolutely perfect conditions out there today.

Happy Birthday OO61, as a skinny runner you will no doubt have weak glutes.....and hammies..... and quads.....But it's worth some physio at least. It doesn't necessarily have to end with weights, hill sprints might help

Sounds good Gerard and LMH, hope it comes together.

Weights is probably good for you at the mo TT, Malaga could be good. But i have to show some running form first.

Was minus stupid temps here this morning, ended up with bear icicles and a flat battery on my phone. Did 3m of the Kenyan hills type session on a stretch of trail. 8m in total.

TT, that's great that you've managed to get out for a few runs. The body is amazing and weird all at once. 6 weeks ago this would be a totally pie in the sky place to have been now.

How is the coaching coming along?

Riggsy, sorry to hear about your father in law. It sounds like he has improved though from your subsequent post which is positive

LMH, given your hate of the cold, it looks like a difficult week or so that we are into. Jersey sounds great. My wife spent 6 months in Jersey working in a hotel after uni. She is regularly talking about us doing one of our family holidays there at some point. I might need to get Gerard to put us in touch with his mate at some point.

OO, happy 62! Let's hope it yields some great races. Yes, Pescara definitely was a highlight of your year and as TR say, probably the threads also. Re the MRI and knee diagnosis, it's a bit like a car problem, sometimes it's best guess, you pay for the fix, it isn't the cause and you move to the next likely cause. I guess my question is, if you have the resources, would you spend such an amount get your car fixed? If so, given what we do in particular, your body is higher up the list of priorities I would anticipate.

Ouchouch, sounds like you had a decent festive period and some solid plans forming for the year.

Gerard, that isn't mileage by any means given the troubles you have had. It'll at least be enough to form a very solid platform for your plans for this year. Tenerife for the wedding sounds great, particularly if all your friends are signed up as well.

TR, I imagine you were put pretty early in the cold as well? That's a decent time on the Kenyan hills. There's a lot of hill work in my schedule over January. Matt seems to rate it as a very important aspect of training. Malaga would be a good shout for you i'm sure.

Wardi, sounds like a messy one! Decent going in the cold. I am a shorts all year round runner as well!

Yesterday marked the start of proper focus now the festive period is largely over. 30 mins s and c first thing then 8m with strides over lunch then spin last today. Today was a session that has been making me scared since i first saw it in the schedule, progressive 10k starting with 4k at HMP, 3k at threshold, 2k at 10kp and 1k at 5kp. I did the maths and was acutely aware i'd be running a very good 10k time if I executed well. I was petrified of over cooking the first 4k. They came out at 5.55 average, then 5.49 for the 3k (potentially overcooked) then things went a bit awry as km 8 into 9 came with 3 canal bridges to get over so came in 5.52 then km 10 at 5.49, so not really the progression desired, however 36.30 is my fastest standalone 10k in nearly 2 years (i've run faster in 10m and half races) and given a few spots where I had to pull it right back as there were stretches of ice, it's pleasing. If only I could do that in a 10k race!

Also average HR was 162 for the 10k. In a race it would be low 170s.

Sons footy is called over tomorrow so will run the 5m i missed on Tuesday, before the predicted snow starts. Might have a few beers tonight with the darts as well given I have a lie in.

As for Malaga, i'm pretty certain that I am going to enter on payday. It'll be a nice last mara pre turning 50 a few weeks later. I might add on a day or two from the standard Friday-Monday trip just to get a bit more out of it as well. Be good if a few from here decided to sign up. My wife cant come due to the kids and i'm not asking my mates as it'll just become a full on piss-up!

You'll run a faster 10k than that in a race soon I'm sure DT19. Great session. Enjoy the beers.

My hammies were an issue before I was skinny TR and my quads and glutes are strong so it doesn't necessarily follow.

DT - great work, shows you are in great shape despite Christmas. Very well placed just as your training ramps up. I would say that it's got to worth a good 15sec per mile better in a race. You must have a very low 35min in there.......you did well to find a safe route to run on there........only 3m of that run was done as the Kenyan hills, maybe I should do more of them if your coach rates them. I run up and over a long hill each commute but I don't actually do reps.......dry January will be over here too a bit later on tonight.

LMH - OO61 hasnt biked or swam (regularly) like you though and as a 60 something run only runner will have loads of over used and under used areas.......but agreed, I'm no where near skinny and have hammy issues with strong quads, I suspect lower back as the source.

Happy birthday OO61! 62 kms of exercise today?
Good to see momentum growing for Malaga. With temps currently minus, a sunny marathon sure sounds attractive.

DT - Back on it! A 36.30 post Xmas 10K is tasty.

TT - Good to see you've been able to do some running.

Gérard- Sounds a great Wedding plan, love Tenerife.
Wardi - Nice 9.5m in the chill.

12.5m in the weak sunshine earlier, came out 7.27 mm.

The Malaga marathon momentum is growing, seconds ago my daughter just called to say she has entered the marathon, it will be her first! She did the half in 2024.

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
