Although if you were running or walking, this is the route I'd take I've never run it, so I can't comment on it's appeal or sociability, as you probably know, I prefer the open forest! (We were staying at the Ibis near Ikea & the train station.) There a quite a few locals walk to the parkrun, too, so it's easy to follow them as you get nearer to the Common. The parkrun itself is busy on narrow paths so it's important to choose your starting point as it's not easy to get past people. Very friendly crowd, though, as you normally find around the country. As for getting to your ship - I was £7 in a taxi from the ship to the train station last time we cruised from Southampton, so not far at all.
